So bought a 4motion about 3 weeks ago, really happy but the 4wd doesn't seem to be all it's cracked up to be? If i put put my foot down in 1st gear (even without popping the clutch) the front end bounces as it tries to find traction and the traction control light flashes up. The roads have been really wet lately but i've seen videos on youtube of people dropping the clutch from a standing start on damp surfaces and the car just taking off with no drama. I'm wondering if any other 4motion owners past or present could tell me if this is normal in wet weather/damp road surfaces? Cheers Pez

Couldnt comment on how good it is as ive never driven a awd mk4
however first thing ide do is
check the fuse for the haldex is in/isnt blown.
check the haldex system has been serviced and the oil/what ever fluid the haldex system uses is topedd up
This part could be utter bolocks (as with all my posts) cause im no expert on the awd system. but i belive the haldex sends power to front and when the car needs it sends 25% to back when the car looses traction so if any wheels are going to spin it would be front IMO so it could be that its working properly and down to something like tyres

Get haldex system checked bud. Because when i launch off it just goes. Use to get tiny spin but thats because tyres where sh1t at the time. Even with new budget tyres i got on i get no wheelspin :wink:
In the rain do get light wheel spin but nothing major for traction control kick in :smiley:

if you're getting wheelspin like that, the 4wd isn't working, at all.
Try a lairy start, if you're able to light the fronts up and keep them spinning for more than a fraction of a second, it's not engaging the rears.

Will the problem likely flag up on a code search? Got a feeling I might be shelling out a lot to fix this :(

Sorry to rebump but i just jacked my car up to check the cables out, the connectors were fine but i touched the earth and the cable snapped off and had perished to the point of crumbling. Could this cause malfunction at all? Or would a dodgy earth just blow the fuse (fuse is okay). Thanks Pez

:shocked:Well if no earth the unit just will not even work at all. save as much cable you can and replace
Crumbled part with a earth cable try getting one same width. And roll it Up in in su la tion tape stop it coroding again.. see if that kicks the haldex unit back in.( thats my diy bodge job mind kikin In)
If not garage job mate and see you Can get away with jus replacing earth cable instead whole unit
Or anything else expensve :wink:
