Hi recently had a coilpack overheat and melt, which has caused my car not to run ever since.
I put it into a garage who told me the ecu was ruined and I needed a new one but after some serious "googling" and asking friends etc Found out its a common issue and that it could more likely be a fuse somewhere or even wires ( i had to re wire the connector that goes onto the coilpack as it melted with the coilpack itself) I took the car out of that garage and now have it in a garage at my friends yard.
when vagcom is plugged it it can read everything but engine management.
Has anyone had this? or have any info on things I should look out for?

the K line on the oBD connects to all the controllers, so whilst you might be able to read the other controllers it doesn't mean the ECU will read, it's no different to removing the ecu and scanning the car. Only way to check is to remove the ecu and read it on the bench, ie directly. It may be an on board fuse/earth has popped and the ecu is dead or in some cases reflashing the ecu in bootmode will fix the issue.
If you want to send me the ecu I can take a look and see if it can be read on the bench/ reflashed. Drop me a pm.

SORTED!!!
It was a "Relay" in the wiring to the coilpacks that had gone.. Quick replace and car runs perfect!
Now i have to go get my settings for my REVO map put back on again tho :undecided: Why do the revo maps reset when the ecu is removed ot the battery is taken off? Can't it just be saved onto the ecu? is it a style of safe mode incase the map is corrupt??

It shouldn't lose the map settings...

I would like to know this too as my starter motor needs replacing but i would go mad if the map reset after removing the battery. Im not sure how long you get with the battery disconnecter before the map goes. :undecided:

you can't lose any map info. If your ECU is remapped new info is put on so how could it revert to the standard map if it isn't there?

Pretty sure all revo maps that have the settings adjusted on a rolling road for example. Reset back to "0" if the battery gets removed or ecu is taken off.

that would just be silly. surely not

100% Correct that the REVO Stage 2 map does reset!
When my car was mapped a stage 2 map was put on the the car was put onto rolling road and settings were changed from Fuel-0 Air - 0 Turbo - 0 to 9-4-9 and after taking out ecu had to go back to company and get the adjusted settings re-adjusted. Its meant to be some sort of saftey setup i recon.

Good reason not to have a Revo map IMO

its a good man and without going down below the border its probably the best up here i think!
