Title: Accelerator not working (intermittent)
Post by: x Silver x on 08 January 2013, 17:56
Hi all,

Getting a bit down with my 1.8 t GTI at the mo

Had £600 of work done to it....and now when I start it sometimes there is nothing when you put the acceleroater pedel down - even to the floor. I restart it then its fine.

sometimes it all seems fine then wil die as i pull away (the revs drop off) and i have to restart.

but tonight it was looses reves almost cutting out while sat in traffic and almost cut out as I was turning crossing another lane (slightly scary!!)

So my question is - does anyone have a clue what is wrong and what its likey to cost??

Many Thanks

Lisa :)

Only thing I can think of is water in the wiring for the accelerator pedal loom as theres a white box in the scuttle on that side which could be leaking..  :undecided:

Engine code? Depending on what engine code it is you can tell if its drive by wire or throttle cable. if throttle cable then chances are the cars going into some kind of limp mode. if drive by wire then could possibly be a sensor?

Have you had it scanned to see if any fault codes come up?

There was about 5 fault codes....he fixed one in the hope it would fix the others

The £600 included tyres disks pads bushes.....and a bit on the turbo.

Will ring tomorrow and see what other fault codes came up....just waiting on a code reader arriving.

any updates on this?   my 24v 2.8 converted corrado is doing the same, on a single journey its fine but if i stop off some where for 30mins or longer and then start back up the dbw pedel acts up!!

Check the throttle body, there should be a electronic connector on there, make sure it is connected tight and there are no loose wires, other than that cars behave like this when the throttle body is full of gunk and require a good clean out.

You haven't had any issues with the Lambda sensors by any chance have you?

Cheat the wiring to the rear Lambda hasn't been pulled or damaged in any way.

my rear lambdas were removed from the ecu aswell as sai and immo for the conversion,  my fault has got something to do with the vss wire i put in, iv disconnected it today and the pedals been fine but i cant rev past 5.5k revs because the ecu isnt getting a vss signal , i can live with that for now, whats your take on the lambda wireing?

The lambda shares the same ground/earth as the drive by wire system.

Both ground directly to the same part in the ECU, if you get a short at the lambda you will damage that part of the ECU and it will cause the throttle not to work.
