Title: renault clio 1.2 16v
Post by: mcgee9t2 on 08 January 2013, 09:50
Sister has one. went to pull it on the drive for her last night. noticed it was very low on power and ideling around 500 evs.

Pulled it on drive and checked oil. Was just below the dip stick. toped it up for her. anything i could do to help it. obviously topping it up is stopping any more damage being done unless it already has extensive damage. was thinking a good service is proberbly the best thing for it bar major work such as full engine rebuild? your oppinions?

as in just below the min mark on the dipstick, or off the stick completely?  Low idle could be many things though.

A service never hurts.

hydralic tappets without oil in them are the saviour of meany an engine.

it really didn't do it any good and probaly added meany thousands of miles worth of wear to the engine,  but if its stoped ratteling and regained its power its best just to pretend it never happend and carry on trucking

don't think Renault use hydraulic tappets. not that I have ever come across anyway.
