Title: Engine code?

evening all, how can i work out what engine code my car is? its a 2001 1.8t 150 brake. I know my v5 log book has the wrong details on it, the reg on the car comes up saying its a `gofl formal E`! not a gti. But it is a gti and i phoned VW with the chassis number and they confirmed what it is and its a DVLA error.
I need to buy a MAF and want to get the right one so i think i need my engine code!

Should be a AUM it printed just under engine cover it engraved in near top of engine block with raised dots

Thanks will have a look when i have a chance. So to be a little bit more specific.... Standing in front of the car, what side etc should i be looking?!
