om my 16V K jet engine, there is a two pin connector in the engine i need to identify what is does and for -
It's the (brown) one below the water outlet on the block under the middle of the three temp senders! it's kinda hidden from normal view because of the water pipe!
-
Sound like the warm up regulator. Can you get a pic?
-
It not the WUR! it's to the right of the WUR is the water hose and it's behind that going straight into the side of the block, i'll try and get a pic, but it will be difficult :)
Cheers
-
Might be the knock sensor, but that is a guess!
-
Cheers, what does the knock sensor do? i'll get pics later :)
-
Not sure exactly. I know it detects knocks to the engine and cuts the revs. Not sure why though. Might be a safety feature to cut the engine in a crash?
-
Knock sensor detects when the engine is pinking and retards the ignition timing until it stops. I'm 99.9% sure you don't have one on your 16v, AFAIK its only fitted to engines with Digifant management systems.
-
I thought i may not have one :)
Any idea what that connector is for? i know it's difficult to explain without a pic! I am guessing it must be some temp sensor as it's in the block below the other thre temp sensors!
-
I have a gut feeling it might be the temp sensor for the ISV. If not that all I can think of is a temp sender for the rad fan, some VWs have an extra circuit to switch the fan on if the block gets to a certain temperature.

Cheers, i have been tryiong to remove it, just to clean it up, as i have done all the other connections, but the dam thing will not budge, because of the awkward postion i guess!
Any ideas on how i can find out exactly what it is? I have looked through the haynes but can't find anything!
