Title: To cover or not to cover... That is the question!!?

Evening ladies and gents,

My MK2 has been garaged for about 18 months whilst I've been commuting for a job in a far yonda land.  But I now have been offered a job closer to home that has given me the chance 'finally' to have the GTi as my daily again!!! WooOoohooOoo!!! :laugh: But that's enough waffle...

I have just spent most of this weekend detailing him to within an inch of his paintwork and wondered about the best way to store him now he's at my fiancé and I's house as we have no garage... :undecided:

Do I cover him, Would a cover be bad??  Do I save and hang a hard port type roof off the side of the house over him?

Can you guys suggest anything... Want to keep him at his best.

Dry cars don't rust or tarnish, covers are ok but a car port would be better :smiley:

I have no garage either and I like to keep the MK1 dry if poss.  I bought it a multiple layer breathable cover.  nothing about it is plasticy and the inside is like felt so soft on the paintwork.. had it a couple of years nearly, car seems to be happy under it.  Have just bought one for the Van now too.

Nothing beats proper shelter but the above is a good second choice.

Id go with the car port,  some protection from the elements and less hassle when you want to drive it.

If you can, go car port... It'll be a god send when you need to work on the car and it raining  :smiley:

I must have done too broad a search.  Will look for thoroughly next time.   :nerd:  Will probably go for a cover for now and then know up a carport when I have the funds...

''breathable'' covers still need to be aired out once or twice a week.

I left a very expensive breathable cover on for a week and my mk2 paint is feeked. Whole car needs a repaint. I will be lucky if I can wet sand the blistering out.

Better off leaving it without a cover or carport

Just beware of cantilever car ports.
