Title: Leaking block ?HELP?
Post by: KingMill on 05 January 2013, 22:17
Hi guys, just wondered if anyone could help me out here,
i've got a mk3 golf 2.0l GTi 16v, and i've left her in my garage for the last 4 months or so, due to the winter here in Germany, i've ran the engine up for about 10/20 minutes about once a week, and today, i started it up, left it running for about 10 mins, then as i took the jump leads off the battery, i noticed smoke coming up from the right side of the block, only a little bit, but enough to start me worrying, as i looked closer, it's at the back right hand corner of the block, and it looks like there;s something leaking (slowly) out of the gasket there, and evaporating fro the heat of the block, i noticed the coolant level was higher than normal in the expansion tank.
could this be a head gasket change on my hands?
any idea's what this could be? and would it help if i post a picture of it here?
Many thanx :-)

I'll have a look when i get back on my laptop, thanks mate, i've been down and had a look, got a load of pictures, then i realised it's actually coming from a hose that connects to the side of the head, and it's slowly running down to the back right corner, so it's not actually leaking from the gasket :-)
