anybody no how to remove the auto choke on a 1.6?
the choke on my jetta is doing my head in. using loads of fuel and revving high all the time on idle.

  i felt your pain. you can get a manual choke conversion, or just fix it
-
usally you have to take the manifold off to change the bunged up rubber grommit.
car will then appear to run right and come down off choke correctly as the water will actualy circulate through the carb, for some god unknown reason it will then use more fuel to piss you off at whitch point you rip teh piersh!t off and fit an engine with EFI

or sell / swap it
-
Or a proper carb

I had this problem, tried 3 different carbs to no avail, ended up putting a Weber on with manual choke. Has run like a dream ever since!

If it's just the auto-choke then it's just a couple of hours of swearing and you're sorted, although you'll still have a Pierburg on the car.
If it were me, I'd Weber it to avoid further annoyances.
