Title: Just got my first camera!
Post by: LazyLunatic on 04 January 2013, 21:31
Well it was a long time coming but I got my camera yesterday.

Its a 400D, something cheaper to start off with and see if I enjoy it. I know what I'm like (as some of you do) and I get bored easily

Also bought a new f1.8 50mm prime lens, caden bag and a lens hood.

Looking at getting a Hama Profil Duo III tripod as my next purchase and maybe a remote shutter.

Anyway, here's a few pics I took around the flat. Please be kind :D

Nothing interesting I know! Criticism and advice welcome! I have read through some of the sticky's on here and will keep practicing!

Take the 50mm back and get a 30 or 35mm prime - it will be far more useful to you.

Shoot the sh*t out of everything and edit hard.

Start shooting raw and make sure you have software to play with the images - you'll be amazed with what you can do with the images.

Oh Hai.

I use CorelDraw a lot and so have CorelPhotoPaint but haven't had a play yet. Probs will use that unless there is any freeware around that is better?

I don't think CorelDraw or PhotoPaint will handle RAW files. But you should be able to download some software from Canon to convert the file into something you can edit. But if you're doing that, do will lose some of the advantage of shooting raw.

Decent photo editing software in order of cost:
1) Gimp - free
2) Photoshop Elements - £60
3) Adobe Lightroom - £90 (or £100 if you can't find it on offer)
4) Adobe Photoshop - £630 (or £230 if you're a student/teacher)

Or download the Photoshop trial version, use for 30 days and then see if you can make do without it

Had a toy with PhotoPaint, seems ok for me at the moment, and it does accept .CR2 files. I'm used to using CorelDraw but this whole photo editing thing is new to me so I'm not doing anything extreme, just a little play with the basic settings.
