Title: Dash back lights inop mk1
Post by: Mk1golfnoob on 01 January 2013, 19:04
Hi all just bin for a drive and found my backlighting for the instrument cluster are now inop, they were working the other day and haven't done anything to effect this myself. the handbrake , oil and battery lights still work tho. Is it just a simple bulb fault or is there any known concerns I don't know about ?
Thanks

You'd be better off asking in the MK1 section

Got a fader wheel under your headlight switch?

If yes, give at jiggle.  They weaken and get dirty over time. Can be serviced if bad or whole switch easily replaced with one from a later car.

Now you've said that, it seems even more likely... Fingers crossed that's all it is.

Just had a play with this and it's either off and when you switch it the other way fully it was really dim, took the switch out and was a lot of dust and rubbish build up on the back , cleaned it and now all ok. Does the dimmer work on resistance ?

Thought it would be this.

Same tech inside as a scaletrix controller!

I found that mine on full brightness the lights would be off, one step back and they were on bright, cleaning didn't help me, it was worn and didn't have very good contact. I took it to bits and bent the arm a bit so there was more contact pressure.
