So I think my turbo is shot. With the car also on 177k I think it could do with a new one. So what's the best one to get. My car is a 2000 AUM so I'm guessing it's a K03 turbo? Is there a better turbo that will fit without any major modifications? I've read that K03 turbos aren't that great. Cheers

You'll have a KO3s already on it unless its already been changed. These are good for 240ish I believe, you could have yours rebuilt and Hybridised with a KO4 cold side. I think it's Littco on here that can do them.
Think that's the way Ill go when mine dies as they can be good for 270+ by which time you'd need rods etc to go higher so it all gets expensive.
I think the Hybrid is a straight swap too unless the Tip needs to be a KO4 specific item.

Ok mate thanks. I don't know about the turbo but GolfySte on here said it was a K03s but someone else said a K03? Oh well I've got a spare K03 turbo in the garage. Can that be hybridised ha ha.

Yes it can, the difference between KO3 and KO3s is on the cold side anyway, as long as the exhaust housing is ok it should ideal.

Yeah there's just a bit of play in the fan?? So I guess it's all good. They easy to strip?
-
should take about 20 mins to swap the cold sides over and also the compressor wheel

Without sounding dumb what do I need apart from the K03? A K04 to take the parts from?

+1 on this so we both don't look dumb

You cant chop and change a turbo just like that.
Which direction is the play in? You normally see about .5-1mm of play side to side due to the wet float bearing...however, in and out play is bad and shows signs of wear to the thrust bearing.

You need the 2 turbos and a seal kit (if replacing the seals but its worth doing whilst its out)
Then send hot side of k03 to be machined out to take the k04 exducer wheel, and k04 cold side needs the bend from the k03 cold side charged air outlet welding on so it can be a direct swap
