Any chance it could be a CV joint, knocking when cornering is a classic symptom.

Check that the exhaust is not hitting the floor anywhere, and especially where it goes over the rear beam...

Hitting the bulkhead?

Why would hit the bulkhead? Would a engine mount cause the knock?

So many things it could be, knackered engine mount is one of them. Did you inspect them when you fitted the engine? Are the bolts done up properly? Go for a drive with a mate in the car to see if you can pinpoint better where the noise is coming from.

Sounds like a loose or knackered engine mount.
