Id say water in the rear lights(s).
That would cause the symptoms you describe. Have a look and see if either of your rear lights have corrosion on the circuit board.

I will take the light out today and check them out,any ideas why the interior light is now coming on all the time now.Starting to see why my bargain golf was such a bargain i have nearly spent out what the car cost me now.

Mine did this, when i wiggled the plug it would fix itself
-
give it a bash is that the plug on the rear lights ,if i spend any more time on the golf i might get strung up.

Yeah the plug on the lights, think I just have a bad connection. The earth points are right near the lights too give them a bit of sanding down

Top man a simple wiggle solved the problem, but the earth on the plug socket going in to the cluster was scummed up too.
Thanks for your help
