Just had a test drive in a  1.4 TSI SE, very impressed, although the first time I took it out it  was still in transport mode and would only do 25mph .
Still not sure about the shape of the front but the inside was a nice place to be. It was pretty nippy for a 1.4, even had a good engine note

My mum has ordered a 1.4 TSI SE, xenons, parking sensors and mirror pack in Tungsten Silver.
She hopes to have it in six to eight weeks as the dealer said he could change one of his allocated orders.

Received my invite at the weekend. Don't think I'll be taking up the offer as I've no intention of changing my mk6 yet and don't want to temp myself!

I had one come from South Hereford for their test drive weekend 11th-13th Jan.

I'm going down for some service work tomorrow, so may see if I they've got one to have a look at, but I'm not that fussed about driving one. I'm changing the Passat next, but that won't be for a Golf.

Got my invite through last week and have just received a reminder.
Not sure if I'll take the offer up as I don't want to be a timewaster as for the poor sales guy time equals money and I'm not really interested in anything other than the GTI/D but it would be nice to have a go in one to see what the fuss is about.
For example the press raved about the mk6 being so much better than the mk5 but with hindsight we all know that was a load of b0llocks; it was better yes, but not way better.
In hindsight I wish I'd kept my old steel grey mk5 and skipped my 09 plate GTI and waited for my current 11 plate instead once the mk5 had go a bit older, we live and learn. Mind you I had good fun for two years experimenting with stuff such as retro fits and 7 sets of wheels!!

Hmmmm, what to do?

Yes, I got 3 identical invites from my 2 local dealers and the one where I bought the car.

My 10yo wants to go and look at the car and go for a test drive but I know I'm waiting for the sportier models to come out.

Having said that SWMBO may well need to change her car this year so wold be good to get a view of the Mk7 as an option.

Got an invite through the post a couple of weeks ago and a reminder by email last night. I'm holding onto my mk6 for now so I'm not going to have a look until next service time to avoid temptation. In any case it would be another GTI if anything

Not had any invites!! Salesman slipping up as the mk6 is 3 years old in a few weeks. Might see what there is the showroom when my scirocco goes in for service next week. Wont be tempted tho!!

Looks like you'll be the official PDI expert then, prepare yourself for loads of pre delivery questions.

I had a phone call from the salesman who sold me the mk 6,then a postal invite then an e mail. I gave in and will drive a 1.4 next friday. Looks like the dealers are anxious to generate interest at a slack time of the year for sales

had the invite a few weeks back and a phone call to buy an edition 35 as well! pretty desperate IMO.

went to look at the mk7 today and i must say its a bit of a minger. i wont be rushing out to order one.

i would love to see some actual proof of the cars weight too. alot of hype about how its lighter etc but the thing just seemed massive

oh and the boot is much smaller than the mk6 due. to the stupid bottom shelf thing.

they managed to get a massive rear silencer, a full size spare wheel and a decent boot in the mk6 so why not the mk7?

oh but something i did like was the floor hinged pedals are now gone and they are much better positioned than the mk6 but the seat seems very high. it was a fairly basic one i sat in but the seat seemed very high to me

i did like the interior but the outside wasn't the prettiest thing to be honest

According the What Car, we'll see the GTI in less than 6 months time, so perhaps there will be more interest from us then.

VW are then going to have the cheek to charge £900ish on top for the performance pack consisting of an extra 10PS, better brakes and diff, to make it into the GTI it should be to start with.

Been and had a little nose around one this morning as i was passing a dealer at work, first impressions are very good imo, there are a few little touches that i didn't notice from the pictures like the panel shape along the roof line is slightly dished and how wide the front is, the interior is going to be the big selling point in the lower spec cars though! The GT spec i sat in is very impressive imo, all the red lights have gone from the switchgear replaced by sharp white, the LED interior lights look the business in the doors and footwell (ambient lighting).
The standard fit Nav unit looks very competent from first look in the showroom but functionality out on the road remains to be seen?
The seats are very comfortable and go VERY low which i like as i've always the thought my GTI seats are too high.

All in all i like what i've seen so far but i'm going to try and get ti my dealer this weekend for a test drive as the proof is in the driving...

I had a call from the dealer this morning, asking if I wanted to make an appointment for this weekend. I told him that I would like to see the car, but would have no intention of buying one, as I would be changing my Passat next, and that wouldn't be for a Golf. I probably wouldn't go this weekend and I wouldn't want to waste anyone's time.

He was very keen to point out that he would still do all he could to get me the best possible deal on any car they could get hold of. He kept going on about the Passat Altracks that they have in stock. I told him that I wouldn't have any money to spend until April at the earliest, but he kept on insisting that I should make an appointment to go over. I reckon for people in a position to change their car, things are tight and there should be some good deals to be had if you play it right.`

Anyone found a dealer with anything but the 2.0 TDI available for test?

Until the GTI comes out, why would anyone want anything other than the 2.0 TDI?

Yep, Cambridge dealers have both the 1.6TDI and 1.4 140PS cars on the road.

I had a good long test drive of about 10 miles today in a 1.4 tsi(140). First impressions are very quiet and smooth ride, interior quality and style much improved. I liked the electric handbrake, in effect you never have to touch the button, it's all automatic.
The stop start is unobtrusive in use and I noticed that the engine went into 2 cylinder mode several times on light throttle and braking.
Would I buy one? We will have to see the new GTI, particularly the prices and the value of my trade in, red GTi, 10 reg currently 18500 miles.
I must say though I loved driving mine again after the test drive with the big power advantage!
I'm interested to hear how some of you guys get on with the new model

You'll be looking at the thick end of £15k to change when the time comes. Financially it takes a bit of justifying, but then new car purchases often do.

Make a note of the reg number and see how long it takes to appear on the VW Approved Used site.
