Title: Any last of line R discounts?
Post by: Exonian on 30 December 2012, 15:22
Happy New Year all!

It's normally me thinking about getting a new car but this time it's for a workmate of mine!
A guy I work with has just test driven the local dealer's demo ED35 and quite liked it but they won't cut him much of a deal so he's having a look round to see what's what; has anyone found any deals on brand new in stock ED35s or better still Golf R's?
He's not fussed whether it's DSG or Manual.
He's driven my 'standard' GTI and the dealer's demo cars plus GTD and isn't willing to wait for the mk7 GTI.

EVO mag this month said any VW with an R badge are one of the lowest depreciating cars you can buy

golf r was 5th and scirocco r was 3rd i think, worth about 73% of cost when new after 3 years apparently

I might stick an R badge on the back of my GTI then and see if that helps it depreciate less!!

Was just wondering if VW were knocking out the last of an overpriced slow selling car with a decent discount like they did with the R32. They guy who's looking said all of the nearly new ones the salesman in our local dealer came up with on their group stock were all £32k plus still so I think he's decided to look for a new one. He's never had a VW so I reckon he'll go elsewhere in the end.

I passed his number onto him last week but it's the same dealer group as my local dealer...

Regardless of which dealer group it is the invoice discount will be the same? I think it was around 12% on a gti but about 8% on an R? Try brokers4cars as they show what discount they can secure using their own manufacturer terms.

Leicester Volkswagen have a 2 Rs on their way from the factory for 29k and 31k also got an Edition 35 for just over 25k. That's where I got mine from

Before you give him any details of a car that's just about to date.... Give him the details of the cheaper 32 horse power 3.0 twin turbo BMW M135i....

I'd be tempted to wait and see what reviews the mk7 GTI gets.

Couldn't agree more, if he wants a VW i think it's madness to not wait.

I'm not sure if he's even aware of the M135i! I'm not sure if it floats my boat either tbh. Wouldn't mind a go in one...

as for buying an end of line car - can't see why not as you get some cracking deals with loads of extras thrown in sometimes on a fully developed car. The mk7 doesnt look 'that' different to the mk6 and it will be a while before the R hits the UK.
I dunno, it's his money!!
In fact I was just thinking the other day that I reckon if the mk7 is more than a couple of inches wider I won't be able to get one through the entrance to my garage! It's tight as it is. So it could be out of contention for me too as I can't be arsed to move house unless I win the lottery!! Anyway the miles I'm doing at the moment I'm still considering a Diesel as my next chariot... Shame the 1.4 TSI 180 bhp engine is so unreliable or the Polo GTI would be a good compromise for me.
Anyway this thread isn't about me and I must stay focussed!!!

The hard thing is actually finding a dealer with one in stock and then its individual as to what discount they are prepared to do. I looked for a customer about 3 weeks ago and from memory there were about 7-8 in the entire uk stock and that a mixture of all 3/5 door manual/dsg.

I am away from work at the moment otherwise I would try and help your friend find one but not back in to get on sli and search till the 9th. Or if he phones VW uk customer services they will point him in the direction of a dealer that has one.

Thanks Lee.
Maybe he did try to ring you then as he said he would.

Originally he wanted a GTI like mine but changed to the R after the non stop rain we've had. I think he was just hoping VW would discount off the last few like they did with R32s at the end of the line. I did think about offering him mine but couldn't be arsed with it all as he has a car to sell.

Yeah I have been off since the 21st.......because of the help with the lowest rate finance we have ever had on golf and £2000 deposit contribution they wont also give us more margin accross the cars. Simply getting around 5% off a stock car and £2000 deposit contribution will make it near used car prices and then of course the help with the low rate which we cant do on used cars.....used ones are not that cheap in most cases. We are going to struggle to sell our demo one when its time to market it but then again already there is pretty much no more new ones out there so if someone wants one that bad they will pay what ever they can justify. The only used cars worth buying were a bunch of September pre registered cars which were free to go in  early December but most of inchcapes nice ones have gone. Just the odd golf plus and jetta left ; )

I basic form what spec is he after?

Just got a text message back from him, not bothered too much about spec depending on deal, doesn't seem bothered about colour either or how many doors!
He knows me and knows I retrofitted quite a few things to my last car so knows how easy it is to do! I guess that means he will be expecting me to hunt stuff down for him and fit it!!

Just heard back from him again, he's been offered a high spec ED35 for £25k which sounds like it's a new one. Considering my local dealer's demo 35 is £26k that sounds promising!!
