Those of you I have on facespaz and Instagram will be fully aware of my recent purchase already but I thought I waffle a bit on this subject.
Where do I start? Well I first dabbled in Smartphones 11 years ago with one of these bad boys:

It's an Orange SPV that was made by HTC running Windows Mobile. At the time it was pretty awesome as it had outlook which I had hooked up to my hotmail and IE for browsing the (very slow!) mobile web. Ahh the days of WAP sites, anyone else remember those?
Anyhoo, it certainly had it's flaws like it kept crashing and even had it's very own version of the BSOD. I can't remember how long I had it but eventually I changed phones and went back to a non smartphone as I didn't actually find it that useful.
Fast forward to 2009 and the world has had 2 years of the iphone, everyone is raving about it so I decide it's time to get back in the smartphone game. I'm an apple fan but I couldn't justify the expense of an iphone so when my upgrade was due I got a super cheap deal on a Samsung Tocco Lite.

Or the Samsung Tocco sh!te as I liked to call it. It kinda looked like an iPhone but it was a massive pile of turd. Apps were awful, the touch screen made me want to smash the phone with frustration and I generally hated it. I was not impressed with my re-entry to the world of smartphones. It went as soon as my 12 months were up and was replaced with an HTC Wildfire.

Hurrah, a reasonably priced Smartphone that works!!!!!!!! This phone was a revelation, helped in no part by HTC's sense UI for Android making it a breeze to use. I loved this phone for 12 months and then got drunk and left it in a taxi. Never mind, I'll replace it with a Wildfire S. I mean what can go wrong, it's the same but upgraded? Er, humm, sh!te phone syndrome strikes again. It was fine for the first 6 months but some design problems with the hardware means it constantly runs out of internal memory and there's nothing you can do about it despite moving everything you can to the SD card. It started crashing, a lot. If I didn't hang up a call first it would need the battery removing to get it working it again and a load of other problems. After 12 months I'd had enough and it was time for another change.
This time I decided to go for something a bit more top of the range. For the last 12 months I've had a Galaxy S2 as a work phone and I've been pretty impressed with it spec wise, make a cracking business phone, good for games and apps but it does feel a bit cheap. This tempted me towards and S3 but at the end of the day the iPhone 5 won out.
I like Android, I like how you can really mess about with it and configure it. iOS6 is not a tinkerers wet dream, but damn it's slick! I kinda wish I'd taken the iPhone plunge a while ago now. Like everything it's not perfect and it has it's downsides and glitches but overall it's proper nice to use.
Anyhoo, enough waffling, I expect to get flamed for being a fanboi in 5......4....3......

I like apple... ive had them since the 1st iphone to the 4s which i then switched to s3 and was glad
Iphones are good, what i find is a real problem, enough to sway me off them is that rather than put a memory card slot in they would rather make you spend £90? for 5 years of icloud :sick:
£90 for a bit of friggin memory :angry: little things that make or break

Yeah the lack of an SD card slot and the ability to increase storage on the device is certainly one of the big drawbacks. I only got the 16GB model as well.
I don't need all my music on it all the time and I don't need to walk around with HD films on it though. I guess I'm used to weekly syncs with whatever I fancy as up until I got this I only had a 4GB iPod for the car and I managed fine.

iOS6 is not a tinkerers wet dream, but damn it's slick!
Thats about it with these apple products. They look nice but really they are crap. The limited tinkering takes the slickness out of the product.
After working in a phone repair centre (programming and circuit repair) - Sony have always been way ahead of the game.
I made a huge mistake buying the iPhone and listened to the hype. Nothng but problems with it. Had it replaced last week with a refurbished one. Noticed the phone had no 3G so I opened it up and it had screws missing for the antenna and all sorts. - avoid refurb phones btw!
Anyway...Apple just make out as if they have released something new when infact it is not new. They have a crap phone but just market it very well.

As long as you're happy Nick :afro: it also makes sense being a Apple user as it'll integrate with the Apple Ecosystem.
I'd still rather have my S3 though :cool: :tongue:

Apple for me as well. Had one since the 3gs. Just about to expire my contract on my 4s soon. Had very little trouble apart from speaker failure on the 4s after 3 months. Replaced by apple in the local store for free and no fuss made.
If the net is to be believed they are talking about releasing new phones every 6 months. I am going to hang on a while as i think the 5s/6 might be released in April. Don't want to be tied for 2 years on a out of date phone.

I'd be shocked if they started releasing a new flagship phone every 6 months! The 5 wouldn't be out of date anyway! and if you wait for April, you might as well wait a few more months for the next one as that'll be even betterer.

They started doing ipad every 6 months. My contract is up in April will wait and see. TBH the 5 is not really an update on the 4s anyway, i have most the features it has due to the os6 update.

I'd have thought the larger screen, 16:9 aspect ratio & slimmer light weight design would be a big update over the 4S tbh iOS Software updates are inconsequential as even the 3GS got iOS6

HHMMM the os6 software has fu**ed up my 3gs. It wont reconise there is a sim fitted so can't re connect to the itunes. It reset the phone back to factory.Wish they had gone wider with the phone not taller. Perhaps the next one will.

Im glad they didnt go wider, i dont want a huge phone to carry around ! I have never had any problems with any of my iphones they do the job i need them for :cool:

I think a bit wider would be cool buts its personal opinion. I got my 3gs to work again but daamm i had to loads of reading up on the forums. I had to jailbreak the phone to re activate it.

I've noticed the battery draining more quickly on the 3GS with ios6.1 than it used to on iOS 5.x

You using it as a client to an Exchange server? If so, check for 6.1.2

Ok so i have been looking at phones the last week, i am a iphone user have been for 3.5 years. But damm i like the S4. Loving the size compared to the narrow iphone. Think i will be changing to android. Am i mad or what? Whats the general opinion? The guys in the phone shops love the S4 and recon its way better than iphone 5. I love the iphone but i think its a little stale and they need to up there game. Thinner and lighter is not where its at for me. A proper big screen is what i want to see.

On a serious note, I love the input into android systems, they are very versatile, manufactures can develop so much more for it, from the UI, to the hardware and drivers, where iPhone is just a given product that is worked on through software in its lifespan. Which is where I find it disappoints.
I'm not a windows fanboy, I actually hate what windows have done to their OS since xp and what they made their mobile/pda OS too, only thing I like is XP and the xbox. I'd actually be very likely to buy a mac pc further down the line or actually try linux again as it has come a long way for this reason, but phone & tablet wise I do prefer the android os to the iphone.
Its down to choice, you can play around with the s4 handset and if you don't like it, then return it within the given time of when you get it.

I've had the S3 for about 7~8 months and and coming from a smaller phone with 3.5" screen to a 4.8" was pretty damn hard going for the first few months until I got used to it and found a case I could use comfortably - the S4 has a slightly larger screen too which has put me off upgrading to it and most likely won't get an S5 if it's any larger.
I'd love the S4 packed in the HTC One body, the only really disappointing thing with the HTC One is the 4MP camera, still, I can't wait to get my hands on it when it eventually arrives (sold out and expected early April, so they say)! It uses an "Ultra Pixel sensor", meaning it can capture more light than an 8MP camera, making it good at low light shots - however the detail is lower than an 8MP sensor. The S4 has a 13MP camera... I think HTC cocked up there, they should have had an 8MP Ultra pixel sensor rather than the 4MP.
