Title: using jb weld for beading intercooler pipes
Post by: rio_gti on 29 December 2012, 18:06
so i couldnt get hold of a beading tool and i had some jb weld so thought i would give it a go and see what happens!!

firstly key the end of the pipe with sand paper

then using what you have to hand (a bottle top) you need to cut out a guide that will run around the rim of the pipe with a little nic tacken out of it... this is what will be forming the bead

then mix up equal parts of the jb weld and leave to harden for a short while

apply the weld to the rim of the pipe approximatly where the bead will be (i used a chop stick)

then using the guide run it slowly around the rim to form the bead

then leave to dry....but check it as it may need the occasional touch up with the 'guide' tool

once dry it can be fine sanded to make extra smooth

Cheers!!!

And id love a piece of JB weld to enter through my inlet valves.

Just thought about this and...

1) there will be a clamp the other Side of the jb weld
2) this side is under pressure so it will more than likely blow the jb out as opposed to suck into the engine
3) there is no 3!!!!
4) re-thinking it no. 1 is wrong.... But I been drinking so let me off!!!!

It depends on the pipe material as to how you can bead it. Stainless is to hard to use a machine.

My stainless beads we're welded on rings. They work very well.
