Hi guys need some help please.Drove the car into town and got stuck in traffic, went to move off and car cut out.Wouldn't restart so left it for 20 minutes and it started ok.This is the second time it's happened in 2 weeks and always when the oil temp gets to around 75 degrees.Had the crank sensor changed so i know its not that.
Any ideas.

When you say it cut out, Did it just lose all power?, Did the revs go all over the place?
Could be ECU Relay?
-
Hi.Just cut out and revs just died.Didn't have the flashing oil light syndrome either. It only cuts out when oil temp gets to about 75 degrees.I changed ECU relay and the car ran worse so i put the old one back in.
Rob
-
The car shouldn't run worse with a new ecu relay. Did you purchase OEM? Relay number 109
-
Have u tried a new ECU Temp sensor?? Try starting it with this plugged out?
-
Yeah ECU relay 30 and new one is white, the old one which is still in the fuse box is black.Where is the ECU temp sensor. The only temp sensor i know of is in front of the block above the oil filter ?.Sorry forgot to say new one is from VW.

Rob
It on-top of the water flange, the one which is infront of the engine block, Its got a 4 pin connector
-
Yeah changed that and its original VW.Always had a problem with the temp not sitting at 90 but have put that down to worn thermostat.
Rob
-
touch the relays after driving the car for 10-15 mins, they should be warm to touch, if they are cold, you then have a duff relay.
The fuel pump relay is also common to naff up, Keep an eye on them.
-
Have you had the car on VAG-COM?? to see if any faults are showing up??
-
Would it be duff if the car starts first time every time.Car drives great except when the temp gets hot then the cutting out starts.
No never had it on a VAG-COM.Thought the problem was over when i had the cranks sensor changed.
Rob
-
Run it on vag com and see if something comes up. But most likely it wont.
and by the sounds of it, you've replaced the parts which would make it cut out, so i dont know what else to guess tbh
-
Yeah i'm running out of ideas too .Just a quick question is the ECU relay no 30 or 109 on Mk3 8v ADY engine.?
Rob

Rob
LOL, i Wouldn't know, I've been thinking yours is an AGG all along, I dont have a clue what it would be on a ADY. I've PM'd you
-
sell it
-
LOL.Not an option m8 as i don't have any other wheels or spare cash to buy another.
Rob
-
lol was joking, u got VW specialist near u
-
The guy i use to do any work on my Golf.He changed the crank sensor when i had a "cutting out with flashing oil light" issue a few months back. But now i've got the cutting out issue back but without the flashing oil light.
Rob
-
Genuine crank sensor? as cheap ones are crap.
-
Yeah £83 genuine..Car has run ok on short runs since being fitted but cuts out when oil temp gets to about 75 and has happened both times when sat in traffic and water temp has got up to 90 degrees.Water temp never gets up to 90 normally only when sat in traffic or slow moving.

Right, just had diagnostics done. This was all that showed up.Sunday,06,January,2013,15:15:23:53553

Right chaps quick update.
Took the MAF off and gave it a good clean, took off the top and bottom breather hoses and cleaned all the gunk out, gave the throttle body another good clean out and took the K&N induction kit off and cleaned the filter.Got the VAGCOM done to re-align the throttle body.
The response is unbelievable and quite a bit more umph through the gears.Gonna let the car idle for a while and see if the stalling issue has gone.Lets just say that if everything is ok i'm a very happy chap  .
Anyone with similar issues definitely get the VAGCOM to re-align the throttle body cus it WILL make a difference especially if you've cleaned the throttle body out.
