So how many miles will a golf engine take before it trully dies? I saw my mates today its done 195,240 miles. But I've seen one at 230,000 before. I know the engines are meant to be bulletproof mind, discuss?

The only dissusion you shall recieve will be banter and mainly abuse
-
My 8v gti 2e is at 187,000 hopefully more in her yet.
-
My 16v has a 176k shell and 140k engine. Hopefully a lot more in her!
-
My TDI has 121,000
My GTI 16v has 43,000
-
My 2.0 - 2E had done 236.346 miles on the clock when scrapped.
Engine was still running smooth but car itself was a bit rusty, would have needed new front suspension and MOTing for registration in the UK...
Am sure engine would have been good for 300k miles... Unless you utterly abuse the "large" 4 cylinder block engines in a Mk3 you can't break em...

Early 92' VR6 on 187,000 miles, burns a bit of oil but still sounds good and pulls well.

Mk3 Gl 1.8 auto - 77000. Up until I started an 80 mile round trip commute it was only 66k!

1996 8v GTi on 53,500....just run in! zero rust, the best run around I've owned, and I've had a few

128k on my 1.4
84k on my 8V - surprising the block is so pristine inside considering how much I got it for.
