New car- lots of condensation.
Scene from titanic quite possible !So why is this happening ...?

Its a Mk4
Chances are water is gettin in either via the door window regulator seals or the rain tray scuttle that covers the pollen filter is letting water in. Is any of your footwells damp inside?
-
me and my brothers mk4's are both getting sh!t loads of condensation too. no wet carpets though. Can't find any trace of water inside :/
Both have had new windscreens in their time, I was wondering if we had just both been unlucky and had poorly fitted windscreens.
-
try changing the pollen filters had something simlar before no water getting in but lots of condesation changed the pollen filter and it was fine after that
-
Check the pollen filter housing as that tends to let water in also as suggested fit a new pollen filter as well.
-
my bros mk4 suffered from this really bad - it's sure something that's very common on a lot of mk4's -hope mine doesnt start doing this too!
-
I get it to, really annoying.
Some mornings I have to wait 10 minutes before setting off due to amount of condensation.
-
Same here with mine. It's due a new Pollen filter in April which always seems to help for a bit. I might de humidify it with my parents portable unit soon and see if that cures it

this +1, also if your using a dehumidifier make sure you have a safety heater as well, you'll be able to evaporate the moisture in the car and the dehumidifier then condenses the moisture so its not recirculated, also helps get rid of any hidden dampness and mold issues for under the carpet

Have a look in the boot, under the carpet, in the spare wheel well. I've had my GTI for only a few weeks, and I've got the same problem with condensation. I've discovered that water is getting in through the boot somehow (I can see it trickling down the panel that clips into the body of the car at the back, directly beneath you when you lean in the boot) and it slowly fills up in the spare wheel well. If we ever get a dry day again (!) then I'm going to take all the trim out and try sealing the leak, provided I can find it.
I've read a load of threads both on here and on VW Vortex that suggest the rear cabin vents (located behind the trim panels and below the rear light clusters) are prone to leaking - the seals don't seem to have been particularly well made and it's a pretty common problem on the Mk4. You need to take the bumper off if you do discover it's these that are leaking and you can then seal around the edges of them with bathroom sealant - I think I'm right in saying that, but you might want somebody else to confirm.
I've got no problems in any of the footwells, so the water isn't getting in through the front of the vehicle, but I get a nice little paddling pool under my spare wheel. It'll be good on a hot day

Also this arrived today, so I'm going to whack it in the boot overnight and it should eat up some of the moisture, which ought to help in the meantime - ideally I want to fix the leak and stop it altogether, but until it stops pi**ing down this will have to do.

I also noticed there's three rubber grommets in the spare wheel well which may potentially perish, and with all the surface water around at the moment it could just as easily come up from under the car as well as from the sky - excellent! Good timing to buy a Mk4, eh??

With it being winter you have to take into consideration your bringing moisture in with you... shoes etc
Nothing much but it may add to a problem
-
Im having same problem. Ive just got a new pollen/cabin filter so fitting that tomoz.
Need to check all the usual places for water asap.
Another thing i was thinking of is ive recently fitted all brushed alu trim and a metal brushed alu gear knob so could thos be a factor in increased condensation coz its all metal now insyead of wood.
Had the same problem years ago when i fitted a roll cage to my corsa lol.

did it work then?

Was it one that bolted through the panels? because that would be a more likely cause of moisture getting in

Absolutely.... No.

There's a grommet under the windscreen scuttle on the drivers side, in which the bonnet cable goes through ....Make sure that hasn't fallen out .Mine had and my windscreen was soaking wet...Ive resealed it and hey presto no more condensation.
