Title: God damn it!!!
Post by: Sugar79 on 20 July 2005, 14:48
My car alarm/central locking is playing up!! when i go to lock it sometimes the indicators dont flash even tho the door led is flashing, just done some tests on it...

1) when i press the remote once to open, the drivers door used to open only, now sometimes the drivers and front passenger door unlock!????

2)i locked the car again and the indicators did not flash so i pressed it again it made a clunk noise and the indicators flashed and the front passenger door unlocked????? (its only done this once)

3) i wound down the drivers window and locked the doors with the remote, all doors locked and the indicators flashed, waited 30secs and stuck my arm threw the window... nothing no alarm went off!!! now this used to work as i tested all this when i first bought the car (as i live in a nice area!! lol) i opened the door with the key, led still flashing sat in the seat after 10 secs the alarm then went off??? Wtf??? i heard a faint click under the dash as the alarm went off.

I think there is something dodgy with the front passenger door, that maybe causing problems with alarm and sensors but i dont know much about how these alarms n locks work... anyone any ideas??

sorry its long winded  :embarassed:

Sounds more like the control box is playing up, usually when the alarm goes off there is a clicking under the passenger side dash below the glovebox.

Not sure how to fix it though, i just shorted the one out on a previous car as we had no remote fob anyhow. Might be worth getting a auto electrician to have a look at it.

another common one :undecided:

Sounds like your passenger door lock has the dreaded microswitch failure.. you might find it'll go away for a couple of weeks then come back again, fits the symptoms exactly. Another way to test is to sit in the car with the ignition on, and lock the doors using the button on the fingerplate controls, you'll probably find your passenger door lock pin will pop back up. A new locking mech is about £80 i think.

Oh and regarding the alarm.. its just the ultrasonic sensors that don't get armed, the door/boot/bonnet sensors are still active, again that's intermittent though.. sometimes the ultrasonics will work.. sometimes they won't.

If only everything in life was as reliable as a volkswagen

yes that happened the other week, i lock myself in the car when iam driving on my own    and i pressed the lock button on the door and the passenger pin popped back up... its stopped doing it this week.

*sigh* more expence and no money... ive got a list as long as my arm of things that need doing, and the list keeps getting longer
