hey,
my drivers electric window had the problem where it goes up halfway then comes back down again. So I changed the regulator and motor, and fitted another cable as i screwed up the previous one taking it apart. Now I've fitted in but here's the problem..
1. when press press press it goes halfway up and clicks, like it thinks it's at the top.
2. when I hold down the up button it goes halfway up and comes down again, like it's met an obstruction.
3. it will go all the way to the top if there is no glass fitted. if i fit the glass it goes halfway.. even if I assist the glass upwards it still only goes halfway with the glass..
i've WD40'd the along the cable and at the pulleys, still to no avail.
this is on a mk3 golf (would have put in the mark 3 section but i'm hoping i'll get more response here!)
any help much appreciated!

the window wasn't in square so the short side of the glass by the wing mirror was getting stuck when it got halfway

Mint mine does this shall.try your fix

Yep
I had this problem when replacing the motors, ensure glass is square and doesn't hit or rub of anything on way up !!
Also don't over tighten the white supporting clips (ones with rubber in) at the bottom once Uve got the glass centered.

Is there a way of checkin the glass alignment? Like anything to use as a guide etc? Just did mine and hqving the same problem. or is it a case of trial and error?

I did same thing.
I then loosened the clamps on the glass, sprayed some wd40 on them. Then it went up fine and I tightened everything back up

+1 on wd40. was having trouble fixing my mate's seat but a spray on the clamps and it bedded in fine after a few ups and downs

I had the same problem with my window. I would press the window button and when it got half way it went back down again. It managed to close in the end, it was catching on the rubber on the side. It did my nut in as well.
I did hear that some peolpe half alot of the same problems with their golf windows.

I done the same. What i do before fully tightening the nuts on the bracket, finger tighten them 1st close the window open it a few time, you will see the window move tiny bit. Then fully tighten the nuts.
