Title: Looking for mud flaps
Post by: liamreid on 23 December 2012, 17:52
Hey guys, I'm looking for front mud flaps for my Edition 35 however I cant seem to find any!

I was told when I bought it that the standard ones wouldn't fit because of the skirt. Does anyone know if there is anywhere that makes them or if the standard ones can be modified to fit without looking cheap?

thanks.

You can spec front mudflaps on a new 35 on the VW configurator [£69] so I don't see the problem. [Only stated as not suitable for R]

This has been discussed quite a bit, try the search field for some other threads. IIRC they don't fit the 35 but this was when the first model came out?

I did something similar when I had my Mk1 Leon Cupra, but mine were a bit bigger like the ones on the white car at the bottom of page 3.

With wider wheels though surely its the functioning of the mud flaps rather than what they look like?
I actually quite like them.

I don't think they look bad to be honest they sort of match in with the wheel arch spats the R has

Its not an issue. With a wee bit ability and a good cutting knife you CAN fit standard front mudflaps to an ED35.

I have custom fit them to my ED35 and no problems, rubs, worry of skirts falling off. Fit nicely once done

The Stealers will always tell you they don't fit or parts will say the same "Theyre not wrong" but they are not paid to think outside the box.....

All the fittings are the same, you just need to take a bit of time determining the cuts you need to make to allow for the skirts and in the main the inner wing torx screws will still line up for the flaps once you have cut away excess and i can assure you there is no wheel rub or flap grounding under sharp cornering or braking.....

Cheers Arena

Why not just get the correct ones from a dealer instead of cutting? They are shown on the configurator as an accessory for the ED35 @ £69 for the front pair.

Rick. The configurator says a lot of things and the mudflaps for fronts are generic to Golf and although it suggests it they are not for the side skirt Golfs.

Just as Liam here, I checked with Stealer but could not order so i got them to provide Golf Fronts and i customised to suit.

Liam my ED 35 was fully toyed by Perth so all VW but the bling etc is fleabay but i did order the 35 from VW for rear (not cheap). There are threads where you will see pics of footrest and rear 35 badges as well as inserts for seat adjusters. All reasonable......

I did the mod that is in the link to the Aussie site a couple of weeks ago. I intended to take them off after winter, and just use them for protecting the car from the worst of the crap that gets kicked up. After putting them on though, they're so discreet on a carbon grey car that I may just leave them.

Couple of days after fitting them I went to see the missus's parents who live down a dirt track. Was wet and muddy and the side of the car got off scot free from the thick mud. The previous time I went it was in a right state after leaving!

Being a Yorkshire lad, £12 for some rubber flaps, enough to make 8 out of so plenty if you make a mistake and 15 mins with a craft knife, and bob's your uncle
