Hi all
I am thinking about getting a 1.8t conversion done on my 8v gti. Just looking for some advice about what would be the best donor car to look for/what other parts I would need to buy?
Thanks in advance

Loom of engine you
Clutch conversion i went for a seat hydro clutch/cable
New brake servo and master brake cyclinder
New inner fuel pump
New intercooler and all pipe work and joiners to suit
Bigger brakes as you got a 8v you will need 16v hubs discs pads
Just a few things of top of my head

Thanks for the replies guys
Just got a quick quote from Adrian flux of £380 for the year with engine conversion (with offer of cheaper quote over the phone) so that is one potential sticking point ticked off. I just need to look around now and price up what this might cost
-
Cost me over 2.5k just for conversion and performance parts i personaly wouldnt do one again as i lost so much money in doing it will keep it oem stlye next time round

That is alot of cash, but maybe worth it for something special. Comparatively, the £4k I lost in depreciation of my 370z when I sold it this month is worse, and the £17k the previous owner who bought if from new lost own 2 years was a real ball buster! (although it was a lady in fairness)

Will be special if your going to keep it i done one from scratch and got used to the power and to go to a ko4 turbo didnt want to throw another grand at it for it not to go up in value... But i enjoyed working on the car if i wos a single man with no kids i would of took it to the next level.. If you need any advice on the conversion drop me a pm :)

Im currently doing this conversion and ive got a standard AGU engine all bolted in with corrado pedal box and everything i need to finish it apart from the intercooler and pipes and it stands me at £850. you just need to shop around
-
Wow £850 is impresive paid just under that for engine gearbox and loom .. Most of my parts wos of ebay as well .. Its all the little things like new clutch/cambelt kit / oil ect my old loom on the the golf wos all corroded and had to rebuild that with the brake servo as it wos all rusty lot more goes in to than just bolting a £700 engine and box of ebay .. Not being negative dude just want you start it you will find your self throwing alot a money at it
-
Yeah i bought a auq engine code im running the fbw and my engines only done 74k but ive still replaced cambelt water pump oil pump shallow pick up and shallow sump new tensioners and belt rocker cover gasket inlet and exsaust gaskets aswell it all adds uo ill also be changing pcv evap pipes its these bits that cost the money even down to the flywheel when u stick a abf one in u always should use brand new bolts so vw parts are a must personally
Also give ne a shout in new year as im having the ko3 ko3s downpipes should have 4 avalible
-
Ive not done the cambelt yet i just want to see it running first to make sure it is ok.
Ive also done the brakes, master cylinder etc that price was just to bolt the engine in and make it run there a lot of hidden costs though
-
Yeah silly tjings like tacho adapter for rev counter 56 quid from msd
-
literally finished my AGU conversion last week, been driving it for 3 days now, and i haven't stopped smiling.
all in all, from buying the donar car to finish it has cost me £3000 to see it done properly. but thats with suitable
running gear and brakes. dont ever plan on selling it, and im single with no kids so cost makes no odds to me
- worth every penny
