Happy days! Bought my 16v cheap, thought it would need a huuuge amount throwing at it, but it's not that bad overall! Gotta love a Bargain!

Every cloud and all that, looking forward to seeing the new 16v, just made the transition myself and quite pleased tbh. Loved my 8v but the 16v feels much more like a GTI should. had a go against a mk4 v5 the other day, wouldn't have even attempted it in the 8v.

lol I had a Mk3 Fiesta pushrod that could take on anything! Never won anything though! That car was purely for comedy

I've never driven/owned a 16V, Looks like i need to try one to see what its all about. Reading the above sounds like its the real deal

Hahaha v funny, i was meant to say that going from an 8v to a 16v, although doesn't feel much different seems to give me a bit more confidence at the lights! but i can see from my previous post ive left myself open to some ridicule.....

here we go.. 90k miles, passed last mot with no advisories, no rusty wings or sills. dragon green like my old one but 3dr and 16v! only problem is whoever had it before sat on the sunroof and smashed it, and a few bits of peel on the bonnet. drove it home for 500 sheets and the other great thing was my insurance was exactly the same, 8v to 16v, result

Its ridiculous how cheap mk3's are at the moment, 90k miles and £500, bargain. I'd get the red 16v badges on it cus they stand out on a green motor and look mint.

I know man they're so cheap.. guessing cos they're shadowed by the super classic mk2 and are older than the mk4? now's the time to buy one. yeah red would look cool, bit strange cos it's got a red 16v badge on the rear but silver on the grill.. gotta Joey those headlights too! in the oven..

May have had the 16v badge nicked at some point, they only clip in!

Looks good though, £500 sounds a bargain for an MOT'd and (by the sounds of it) rot free 16v!

Have you checked everywhere on it yet? Mine was cheap, but needed a couple of patches under the sill covers, a new passenger front wing and needs a repair to under the drivers wing (Wing looks good, but you can see its rusting underneath...) My stut legs (?) are also showing rust within the engine bay...

you mean strut legs?

it doesn't say 16v on the grill (gti) which is why it isn't red (massive doh!)

yeah looks ok for rust. i can see why they rust so much at the wings and sills, the amount of wet mud that fell out of the offside wing from my last golf was mental. mud just sits inside rotting the poor thing away. i've got a drivers wing if you need a non rusty one?
