Title: ABS & Traction control lights on!
Post by: Rob Zombie on 16 December 2012, 13:34
Just my luck lately -

Fired my golf mk4 gti up this morning and noticed the traction control and abs lights are permently on!
Has anyone had this problem before? -

I'm trying to get a vag com test done at present - I've heard this can be an expensive fault :(

What engine code?

Same happened on mine and the MAF had failed .

New one was around £100 on exchange from the dealer.

JimBR - did you by any chance happen to plug yours in when you had the problem ?

If you did - do you remember the codes?

Mine was also the same, and it was due to a faulty MAF

Same thing happened on my mates AUM, it was the MAF sensor throwing both the lights up

My code reader gave the code for a faulty MAF, I cant remember the number. Mines an AUM too, mew maf and they went straight off.

Id wait until they come back on again before you do anything .

if theres afault with the abs then the traction control lite will come as well, but doesnt mean theres out wrong wid ur traction control, cos tc cant work wid out abs, but abs can work if theres a fault wid tc, if u know wot i mean.

Hi Mate,

The lights havent appeared since - it was VERY wet at the time so i dont know if that has anything to do with it.

All good now though! (touch wood)

It's apparently a common problems that's occurs with cold/wet wether.
Mine came up last winter then didn't come back on until last month where they came on but have gone again now
It doesn't affect anything on my car and the t/c and abs still work when they are on so I just wait for them to go again

if thers something wrong wid ur maf sensor then ur tc lite comes on but goes off if u turn ur ignition off and back on again, tc lite will come back on when maf sensor plays up again etc etc. but cos ur abs lite is on as well i dont think the maf is the problem. the root of ur prob seems to be ur abs. maybe a dodgy abs sensor. have the codes read and see wot comes up.
