Please help
Having problems selecting 1st and 2nd gear when engine is cold, once engine warms up there is no problems
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance

Possibly low on gearbox oil..
-
change gear box oil, easy and cheap to do. will make quite a difference.
-
thanks
will change gear oil tomorrow and see if it helps
-
finally got round to changing gear oil today and has made no difference  also its hard to get 5 now keeps going into 3rd  anyone got anymore ideas ?#
thanks

Was going to say linkages, but those won't make a difference whether the engine is warm or cold.
The only thing I can think of now is the synchromesh between gears.
-
IMO gotta be linkage somehow, nothing else it could be really
-
Well it can be clutch related.
Does the peddle free up when the engine warms up?
-
8 or 16v?
-
its a 16v and clutch pedal is a little stiff when cold, works ok tho no slipping or anything.
4th to 5th gear change getting worse its a nightmare when driving keeps just going into 3rd
is there any linkage parts which wear and can change ?
thanks

My valver was the same shortly after i got it. I changed the gearbox oil, stuck a B&M short shift gearstick on it and replaced a couple of the shift tower components. Massive improvement but still not amazing, the 02A gearshift set up is crap as standard. The 02J shift set up from the mk4 is supposed to be very good upgrade.
This said your gearbox could simply nearing the end of its working life...

Could be frozen? Water in the mechs?
-
i was thinking about maybe the cables could be sticking coz of cold might change them before i go for a new box

It's worth a try
