Title: Looking for some help, GTi Mk3 2.0 8v - Engine stammering at 5500 rpms
Post by: Walkerma75 on 14 December 2012, 21:07
its a 1997 Mk3 GTi 2.0 - 154,000 miles on the clock, only an 8v but still fun.

Mostly in good order, it does have a strange stammering at 5,500 rpm's where it losses power and wont accelerate until you change up, other than that its started on the key every day for the last two weeks and I've done about 480 miles it is so far and (touch wood) all seams good (apart from the stammering!) any ideas where to start?

Pretty sure that will be the hall sensor in the distributer, but check your cambelt timing is right first,if that's ok then get another distributer.

thanks for the reply
Distributor is where i thought of starting, regarding the cam belt, its a bit out of my DIY league at present but thought that if the timing was out it would probably have problems in other areas of the rev band?
