As above, my snap-on bill is near 4k now, so need to claim on it.
Iv phoned HMRC, wernt very helpful tbh.. Said send a letter explaining the circumstances, but that sounds a lengthy process. Seemed almost an answer for " im not really sure " but with thousands of tradesmen doing it there must be someone whos gone through this process on here and willing to point me in the right direction?
I know you can hire company's to do it for you, but they take a 30/40% cut, which id rather not happen!
Iv got all the relevant stuff, p60s + receipts/inventorys from snap-on. Just need pointing in the right direction.
Thanks alot

Snap On?
They saw you coming........
Buying 'designer' tools, you shouldn't get any tax relief, if you're stupid enough to pay those prices, then foot the bill yourself, rather than expecting the tax payer to.

Haha.. Alot of mechanics i know have snap on tools...
Reason i buy them is because i can pay them up. Means i can afford decent tools on a sh!t wage to do my job. Dealer also comes to work.
Besides, i work. Pay taxes. Have my own home, not a councill house.Same as you. Im not a benifit scrounge... Some other trademen are lucky enough to have tools paid for them. Unfortunatly for me, my employer dosnt contribute to tool expenses required to do my job to continue to pay taxes...
If i wanted to shaft the taxpayer id quit my job go get some bint pregnant and get a bigger better house then fake a limp and claim more than i earn now....

Yes, phoned 3 times today also. Found a P87 form, but no use as for claims under 2.5k. This is were iv tried phoning. This is when iv been advised to write a letter. But was curious to see if anyone else has possibly done this before and had any advice or had any info.

So glad I pay sod all for my tools. Got a £75 hammer last month :lipsrsealed: might get told off for that.
Ill ask my mates how they claim back on tools as they are self employed but I'm on the books

No problem.
I didn't know the hammer cost that much until yesterday when we see the price in travis Perkins. Would never of got it if I knew regardless. I just liked the look of it

If SE, your accountant should do it for you.
If Employed, I'd advise to use one of the third party accounting services, and take a hit of around less than 1/3rd, you receive a nice fat cheque for zero grief!
In my area, Snap On are doing a promotion with a company that specialise in this, they got there money in a couple of weeks
Also check with your accounts at work, this is something they may be able to do on your behalf...
