A little story about 13 years ago I really wanted this chip!
It was going for about £800 at the time I opted for a 570J which on par was half the price, but matched it on speed @ 3.8Ghz.
I wanted to run a 64bit windows 7 but mines running 32bits but this chip is a 64bit step processor.
L2 cache with 1066 front Bus. So I've just bought this chip for £30.00 odd quid the other chap wanted it badly as he ran me to my proxi. by 10P LOL! They only made this in limited numbers lets hope its a good one?
And yes I know a pentium D dual core could run me to the ground, but I have a rare chip that will proberly never run right on my rig yeah.....!!!!!
Thanks thought I let you geeks know about my highlight of this evening for me

You need to get out more

a 13 year old chip sounds a bit off :lipsrsealed:

Its like a classic car you really wanted one like a MK1 gti, but always dam too expensive to own one
The thing is if you ask how many people have single die's running 64bit back in 2005? Answer no one except a very few Elitetist geeks I bought this for fun its the last P4 ever made on single die!
-
it's a POS that's what it is!!!
enjoy those system hangs. just need a 4gb hard drive to go with it
-
The POS shopping list goes on found some decent DDR2 PC6400 Viper ram 4Gigs twins they will exploit my motoway with five lanes!
If I can run XP on an old P2 I can run win7 on a P4 single die dam you!
have to entertain myself other wise I could just buy a Chrome Book or an Apple and laugh at the 16gig ram boys only ever use 4gigs
Do want a water cooled block for my birthday anyone want to buy me one?
-
That chip is from end of 2004  think you got the wrong chip :lipsrsealed:
I had a 64bit AMD 3000+ chip in 2005  never used XP 64 bit, only FreeBSD 64bit. Sindows 8 is actually running really well on a clients old Pentium D 3.2Ghz Dell DXP051 he wanted to keep a live and uses it daily ! His new Macbook Air has been ear marked for a Win8 upgrade when Apple releases the drivers for it.
-
why wrong chip jay? I've only got a motherboard that can only use p4, dual core will not work plus Bus speed is 1066MHz no series 600 duo will work on it. Dam phone typing is a chore.
It was released Feb 21 2005
North Bridge: Intel Alderwood i925XE
South Bridge: Intel 82801FR ICH6R
-
I remember these were considered the nuts back in the day...benefit of hindsight means they were overpriced junk!
-
Well I'm running it and its stable my ram is 1:1 and much more quieter than my 570J @ X19 mulitiplier!
Yeah noway I was paying 800 odd for it back then, but its a nice upgrade for my legacy system as I can run 64bit apps now. Funny back then 64bit apps really didnt exist.
All good the thermal paste on the old chip was bad like non exisitent Artic siliver is good stuff :nerd:
Next test is win7 64bit over the weekend :lipsrsealed:
-
So as I'm still using a Pentium D 2.8Ghz with 2Gb DDR2 RAM and an AGP graphics card (7600GT yo!), does that mean I can join your club?
In all honesty, apart from the HDD becoming very slow, the system runs great despite not being upgraded since 2006/2007.
-
alright Chris lol can't join the club mate its gotta have at least 4ghz on it mate Lool.
but agp serious man get something better in there does play 720p movies?
-
Doesn't have pci-e so would need a new mobo. 720p is fine but doesn't like 1080p on youtube
-
Shame about not having PCi-e.
I was a world ranking contender at overclocking  7 odd years ago on air!
These days 6mins to run the same benchie test! back then 24mins was fast
I might see if I can destroy this PC and submit a new record for the PC

Lol I did run my pentium d at 3.2ghz from 2.8ghz for a while, but I think that was using higher fsb clock, so wasnt stable above that... Random crashes etc but cpu temp seemed ok.
-
I've decided to water chill my cool little box been shopping I have
Pump
resivor
Block
RAD
Pipes
-
3.6Ghz or GTFO
-
Well I was hoping to get 4.6GHz Jay I'm stock @ 3.8GHz already and temps are 60C @ load and 50 idle!
Parts have started arriving so I need to work out fittings sizes for tubes and connectors! Looks like 1/2" or 1/4" depends on the rad I'm going to be using. :undecided:
-
Sorry, that was a typo, I meant 4.6Ghz! Good luck, it'll be interesting to see how you get on :afro:
-
These have arrived, but mounting holes are not stock on a Shuttle they are 8-10mm wider apart damit!
Plus not sure what fitting and hoses sizes to run 1/2" or 1/4" so confusing using imperial with metric LOL!
Might buy a ready made Rad but want this block!

NO shut it ALEX IT WANTS OVERCLOCKING TILL IT DIES i'M JUST HELPING IT ALONG ITS ALL
I'm running 64bit apps Win7 with all the trimmings and its quick so its telling me do it overclock me some more! even managed to run it on 1.5GB of ram LOOL @ 4-4-4-12 2.0v :nerd:
-
yeah must be rapid!!!!
or not as the case maybe. . . . . .
-
Chill it down to subzero and see what you can get :)

You think about the direction Intel has gone six cores, nine cores same tech IMO, even some todays extreme chips have some cores turned off so they can rebrand them
I dont need to watch porn and prime for 5hours or is that the same?

Parts arrived and started to sort the logistics out!
As you can see the holes for my Motherboard is completely off the LGA755 mounting system. I've decided to make a mounting plate out of polycarb but was worried about thickness of the plate as I didnt know if the compression fitttings would go over the mounting plate but luck on my side I ordered the 45 degree ones as the stem 1/4" was thinner than straight compression ones!
So fabracating the mounting plate soon and clean out the new rad and block with what not sure TBF?

Just water mate not sure about Alex think phase cooler but I have one of those aswell LOL!

just picked up 16gb of samsung green memory for "the business" pc
got my eyes on a samsung 840 pro ssd for the boot drive too
-
Alex the Samsung is a good buy, but bloody alot of wad for little capacity!
-
Alex the Samsung is a good buy
+1
I've got 2 of the previous gen 830s in my desktop (256) and an 840 in my laptop.
If you want to save a few £££ other than for benchmarking you wont see any real-world difference between the 840 pro and non pro, that said the 830 is a better drive than the 840 non pro.
-
yeah i've already got 2 x 256gb samsung 830's in my machine now
it's just the 840's are a bit faster
I'm thinking 2 x 128gb 840 pro's in raid for boot and the 830's as a games drive and the other as a music drive.

over kill IMO
unless you're doing some heavy heavy audio processing / creation an SSD for music is a waste and RAID 0 will give you no noticeable performance increase.
Personally I'd got for 3 * 128gb 840 pro in RAID 5 as at least that way you've got redundancy.
Personally I have one for boot / applications, one for games and then a RAID 0 array for other games / scratch. But I also have a RAID1 array for my backups (which includes my music collection).
-
My music collection is backed up on mechanical hdd anyway. My music is all lossless.
No need for a backup on boot drive as that will only have OS and apps on it and will be imaged.
All of this is overkill. I'm not a benchmark fanboi. I do it because i like the best. the only thing i'll be using mechanical for is movies and tv shows which i only store at 720p or above. When the SSD gets large enough and cheap enough i'll get rid of the mech HDD too.
The old drives filter down into laptops (i have 4 inc the 2 the missus has) or get sold.
i like everything fast!!!
