is there a guide to removing this anywhere as oil is pissing out where the oil filter housing mates with the head think i need to replace the gasket. do i need to drain the coolant as well as the oil if i remove?
-
Coolant is easy enough to drain, do just in case
I think there is just one huge nut to undo which is under the oil filter itself
-
any idea on the size?
-
Remove the oil filter to expose the 27mm nut which holds the oil cooler on, remove this to gain better access to the 10mm hex bolts which bolt the rest to the block. The gasket can then be removed.
It's up to you whether you want to drain the coolant completely but you will lose some and need topping up.

sod that ive just covered it in silicone sealant problem solved.

If it was leaking outside because the gasket has perished it may need replacing. Chances are it's leaking inside too, there are oil galleries leading to the oil filter, these galleries are separated in part by the gasket. It may compromise the effectiveness of the oil filter. I would replace it if it was my engine but as it isn't I have no vested interest as such.
