Title: ABF Rocker gasket change
Post by: MereKat on 11 December 2012, 23:21
Im needing a new one! Quick look and veedub machine have a rocker gasket for £20+vat (not checked vw) but wondering what else I'll need.

I'm thinking: rocker gasket, TB to inlet gasket, upper to lower inlet gasket?

Also going to clean the rocker cover and inlet manifold up a little, would a soft wire wheel and a couple of polishing discs for a drill be ok for it? Don't want it fully polished, just clean...

Also, veedub show a cam cover gasket for a 94 mk3 16v, but looks slightly different and is only £8+vat?! Not sure what year the engine is in my car as it's not original, were there different mk3 16v engines?.....that's if a cam cover and rocker cover are the same thing?  :lipsrsealed:

Yeah they're the same thing, it's called a cam cover as the ABF (the only MK3 16v engine) doesn't use rockers, it uses a hydraulic lifter arrangement.
Whichever gasket you go for, make sure it includes the seperate part that goes around the spark plug wells.

Edit: It doesn't use bucket/shim.
