Title: rough lumpy running poor fuel economy higher revs in gear
Post by: Jasikasisback on 10 December 2012, 22:30
have mj3 golf 8v. in the morning it blows lots of whit smoje on startup and judders when i come to a stop and almost stalls. revs drop and then it recovers. once it gets warm it runs better. fuel wconomy wise i am getting 60 or so odd miles less per tank and it hates driving in town. mot man said it is running rich. recently changed plugs, but not htleads or cap or rotor. anyone can help me find the fault with this?

Sure its not condensation from the zorst? As its really cold now. Rev dropping wise id check & clean the throttle body. Check in the maintanance section

As sharki786 mentioned, you will get white smoke at this time of year which is just condensation. However, if it is really bad it could be coolant from a blown head gasket which will also cause some of your other problems.

Nor sure about the running rich bit, though, although it would appear to run rich if it is mis-firing. There is a chance the cold start is staying on and pumping in too much fuel.

Does it have flat spots as you accelerate (more so at higher revs) and stall when you start it from cold unless you dab the throttle?

Mine is very similar to this. but sometimes it drops that much it does stall. and sometimes at revs around 1200-2500 when you put your foot down it kangaroos.
