hi,
I've had my car for around 10 months now. Picked up a little cracker for £5,600 - with most factory options - but had 107k on the clock, then. I now have around 120k on the clock - and really want to have it re-mapped - but the potential costs if the gearbox goes is scaring me a little.
I can just imagine how well the DSG with more power will transform the car - my old manual one was bonkers.
Should I really be THAT worried? The 'box had a full service about 4k miles ago.
Should I just go for it?

Well maintained DSG gearboxes tend to suffer less from a remap than manual owners who are having to change clutches and flywheels.
I think you should go for it. Yes if the gearbox failed it would be expensive but you did get a MK5 GTI with 120 on the clock so I would put this into perspective and how much you paid for it.

How about looking at an aftermarket warranty to cover the DSG box :undecided:
-
Could you recommend anyone for the warranty?

Afraid not. Never looked into aftermarket warranties. I avoided cars with potential big bills in the first place

Remind me....You have the same engine I spent £2500 on repairing right?

Difference is yours is mounted the wrong way and your local Audi dealer fooked up your injector replacement which I reckon was the direct cause of your large bill.........

Do a bit of research into the DSG remap. From what I've been looking at it seems favourable to remap the box at the point of going stage 2.

Absolutely agree with that. A DSG remap transforms the performance of the car and makes it more fun to drive. Most maps will enhance the torque handling capacity of the car, make the gear changes both faster and smoother, de limit the torque limiter and in manual mode will lock out kick down and auto gearing up at the rev limit.

Thought it was a question you would be able to answer with real knowledge and experience. Haven't taken the plunge into modded territory yet other than my headunit. Was taking to guys at Awesome though when they did the service and cambelt. I like the idea of te APR lock out for dealers and the security of the whole valet mode (obviously reaching 300bhp is just an after thought )
