Title: Golf gti mk3 fuel filler pipe
Post by: Vdub_nut_rich on 10 December 2012, 21:09
I'm having trouble with my fuel filler pipe it's rusting badly.
Went to put fuel in her tonight and the part where the cap screws into has rusted away.
Can anyone tell me if I can just buy a kit or a neck for the tank, and if so where I can get o e from

Thanks for your help

I have looked into it a bit as I have the same problem, and I think you have to change the whole tank, don't quote me on that tho

Dont see what is rusted anyway as the pipe is plastic and part of the tank.

That was my initial thought but then remembered there was a steel ring which the cap attaches to.

i had the same issue with my mk3, and these guys are right new tank,

i didnt do that mind as the neck of it is plastic underneath the metal ring that was knacked i removed this so just the plastic neck was showing i then used a universal fuel filler cap and worked fine and passed mot, you need one that locks into the neck of it, mine was 10 quid and no more rust ,

just my 2pence worth

completly agree dude, i was going to replace the tank until i looked at the cost, my old tank was fine so didnt see the point and sold the car shortly after pointing out the fact this was removed and he was fine with it.

Surely a decent second hand tank wont cost much,  plenty of mk3's been broken out there.
