Can anyone tell me how much money and work goes into solving
noisy tappet problems on a mk2 gti 8v?
Originally vw quoted me £600 (200 parts 400 labour!) because they
say its not just the tappets we replace to solve the problem. Another garage
also quoted me around 500 but only after they asked what VW quoted!!! :embarassed:
Can anyone help?!!

go get some from german and swedish and il talk u through it step by step... the first time i ever did it i took 50mins to strip it replace and have it running.

just about to do the same job meself
its a piece of weeeeeeeee. like harry says go to gsf and get them your self. oh and also get a rubber rocker cover gasket (made for g60 engine) from there as well. this will stop all that oil from pissing out when the original cork one goes hard and the oil starts dribling down the head.
good luck

many thanks!
But to be honest I aint confident or knowledgable enuff to do it myself
Id probably spend all day trying and might forget something!!!

My mechanic did it for £180 he says the book time is 2 hours he also replaced the cam belt and tensioner at the same time. It is an easy job should of done it myself just never get the time.

A good mechanic can do this in an hour MAX. I know, I helped and made tea. If you don't know the history of your timing belt, do this and the tensioner as well.

i got tappets, timinig chain and timing belt done on a 16v for £100!! and it was £150 worth of parts outta EuroCarParts

Excellent, thanks a lot for the advice chaps
Just waiting for a mechanic to call back with a quote so at least I know
it shouldnt be silly money!
Thanks again!
