Hi Guys,
I currently have a Vibe 12CBR sub/amp combo in my car and although it sounds great it gives me a nice drone. Now I want to go from drone to THUMP so am i right in thinking i need to get a 10" sub to do this?
Thanks

Not necessarily.
Depends how your current 12" is set up. What kind of enclosure is it in?
-
Enclosure will make biggest difference. A sealed enclosure should give more punch. Although ported are more efficient and tend to give long low bass depending how the box is tuned.

its a vibe cbr 12 unit with 2 ports that can be blocked off using port plugs.
similar to this:

Cant see it at work (no ebay) but I bet its ade from thin materials which are probably resonating away and confusing the sound.
-
tbh the mdf thickness isnt bad at all and it is a very heavy box
-
That will mostly be the weight of the speaker!
My advice would be to sort a really good, solid box and then see. But make the front so you can change it.
If you still dont like it then you can change the front for a different diameter hole one and try a 10"
I have a 10" speaker cant remember which one off hand. I'll post again when I find the thread

i took the speaker out and the thickness is 15mm mdf so its a decent box from Vibe.
Tonight I am gonna try a 10" vibe amp/sub combo (similar to mine) to see if the bass is different
-
a sealed box should do the trick
-
close the ports for a start, has the box got insulating foam inside? is the sub face facing a boot panel or back of the seats?
'generally speaking', smaller the sub, the quicker it can move, so youre more likely to get your thud, better for dance music, 15s better for RnB

So I'm guessing the 10" was no better?

well, i got a 10" Vibe set up and it is miles better than the 12" i previously had. its a much smaller box but seems to be louder and punchier so i am happy with that - £40 well spent!
