Title: Gear shifter....
Post by: Southerner88 on 08 December 2012, 02:39
Hi,

I have purchased a replacement gear shifter for my Mk4 1.8T (to get rid that that awful wood effect one). After reading a bit about short shifters and stuff, wandered if this would work as a "work-around".

I f I took the current gator and knob off, chopped the metal bar down a smidge then put the new gator and knob on the chopped down bar. Would this have a smiliar effect as it would be reducing the gear change travel?

If its a defo NO NO then please speak up now as its being strongly considered as something to do when I finish these damn night shifts!

it'll make it a touch shorter yes mate, but you'd need to cut lots off to get any really noticable change.

Also, you ideally want the gear lever up higher, rather than lower down. Short shift kits let you get the shorter throw without lowering the stick.

Perhaps try a TT shifter first? They're only about £22 from the dealers!
