Last couple of days I have been on the phone with VW customer service about doing my gearbox oil leak
The guy was great at doing as much as he could for me and putting my case forward, but at end of the day the powers to be said no
The car is now 12 weeks out of warranty and developed a leak from the mechatronics gasket seal.
Not too much bothered about the cost of getting repaired myself, it's a matter of principle now, In the last 5 years I have spent over 100k with cars and vans
2 transporters
2 crafters
1 caddy
2 GTis
All from the same dealer, so today I spit my dummy and through all the toys out my pram and told em that I will never walk into there dealership again,
Today been looking at M3s
So unless i change my mind in the next couple of days, there maybe a few parts for sale, will put car back to standard and move on
Rant over

Can't say I blame you, clearly your custom isn't valued at this dealer
But will it be any better at other dealers?

Can't believe ya dealer won't just do it to keep you sweet? Which dealer is it and how much we talking?

Got to be honest my dealer is great.
-
have you tried going to VW direct...after spending that type of money I would be contacting them...
-
I couldn't get my dealer to do my waste gate rattle which s a £15 clip with me having spent £35k with them in the last 3 years....they don't seem to value customer loyalty these days.
M3 is an epic car mind, had one parked behind me today in the services and it got more than a second look
-
I cannot believe that they would take that stance with such a loyal customer. I'd suspect that most of those were new/nearly new too like mine have been.
"Teddies out of the cot" are never a good idea and I always look after my teddies until all avenues have been explored and exhausted.
about 3hrs work and new DSG transmission oil change would mean approximately the same bill as just doing the DSG oil change service with a couple of hours extra for removing/replacing the gearbox.
Take it to a decent independent and you wouldn't be out of pocket by more than £100-£150 over the DSG service.
I can understand and relate to your exasperation at VW though.

Free 2nd 35 Keyring
Foc black mirror caps & sill protectors following a tiny issue with mrs cabs roof
Discounted paint for my engine cover and rear diffuser
Free parking in town
Free Jetta for the weekend to save putting miles on mine for a weekend away in Wales
£250 sat in their bank after not being able to fit GTi side skirts to cab, which was compensation for roof issue also
Thinks that's about it? The only reason I used this dealer was on price as I normally use a guy at Evo's place but they couldn't compare on price and if I'm honest it's the best move ever as they are my local dealer. Oh and they also give me 10% off parts too.
-
All vehicles that have been purchased were new,
Over 2 days of phone calls to VW dealer, VW customer service, VW cust serv to dealer and still no joy,
After all this that's when the toys were thrown out, I think it was mainly down to me not taking my car to them for servicing even tho they they service all my newest vans,
Still fuming now so at the minute I'm thinking of booking my car in to the local specialist remove all performance parts and refit the standard parts, sort the oil leak out and sack it off
So at this rate i will have All the bits that are in my sig for sale shortly and more that are not listed,
Will never set foot in jct VW Hull again
-
Sorry to hear about your problems mate, sod 'em and get an M3
Oh and sell me all your parts for just a few quid.
Jim

No mate cash up front will need it fuel in a V8 M3

Been out for a spin this morn in the GTi
Why is this car such a good alrounder and the best car I have owned despite its little problems, considering the stick it gets throughout the year,
Yesterday I was fuming and today have calmed down, this car is great, why am I thinking of chucking it in just cos the dealers are arseholes
See what today brings :)

I know exactly how you feel Neil,
I had no end of trouble with a VW dealer, then with VW outsourced customer service department and then VWuk direct.
I have then had no end of issues with the local dealer network too.
VWuk imo is a joke.
-
It is these types of issues that make you want to buy from another manufacturer. However if you like the GTI that much then you have to decide is it worth the hassle?
I am very luck my dealer is great but then again I have been using them for 18 years now and things weren't always as good.
Ref M3 if you have a V8 itch then go and fill your boots
Don't know how long cars like the M3 will continue to be made. Not my cup of tea but I really want a V8 as as I haven't owned one yet.
-
Neil
I'm glad the red mist is wearing off - these thing really grind - I know with mine I felt like shouting at the dealer but thought what good would it do apart from making me look like an idiot?
Thing is the grass is greener on the other side until you jump over the fence. Thinking about my friends and work mates they have had issues with their non-VW cars - one had his BMW 1 in for air con sorting under warranty which was a dash out job. When they put it back in they "forgot" to reconnect half the bl00dy switches including the steering wheel buttons not working either so can't have tested it properly either - you guess he wasn't happy! "Sorry sir, when can you bring it in for us to look at" didn't go down too well with him !!!

Thanks for your comments guys, I think we have all felt like this at sometime or another,
I had another call today from the guy at VWuk who said that he kept pondering over the outcome that came about yesterday and wasn't happy,
He said that he as been fighting my corner this morning and has managed to get 50% off the repair price that VW had quoted, which I found out was £293.00+vat so the repair would cost me around £230
The only problem was I had to go to my local dealer for this
He was a really genuine nice guy who I thought tried his very best for me but I said to him thank you for all your efforts but I will never set foot in that dealership again,
He offered that I could take it to another VW dealership, I also politely turned that down,
I rang the Indy specialist this aft who is sorting it for £170
The longest I have ever kept a car is 2 years
I have had this just over 3 years and with all the mods goes, stops and handles superb,
Is it time to scratch the itch and is the grass greener on the other side ??
I don't think it is yet

Excuse my ignorance but 50% of £293.00 plus vat is not £230, it's £175.80 or have i missed something?

Neil, get the GTI back on a track as soon as possible. You'll know you want to keep it then.
M3's aren't all they are cracked up to be and don't ever get one in murderer black, it is horrendous to keep looking clean.
RWD is fun for sure, but the arse on the M3 is easy to get out of shape and the tyres don't last very long when you do.
-
Even so, I would still rather get an indy to do it if it was me.
-
Neil - ugly car. Don't do it. Its like a big fat turd!

I know john the GTi on track is a truly great car and surprises so many more powerful ones as you go flying past em  I know I would truly miss it especially when the track season starts again properly,
The GTi just ticks all the boxes for me,
Just been having a moment I think
Even so, I would still rather get an indy to do it if it was me.
That's why mine didn't go to the dealers unless I really had to

Like I said earlier I think I have been having a few moments the last few days,

There's no doubt if i had a spare £29,995 an M135i would be on the drive right now.....

VW UK are a pain to deal with from my experiences and are very annoying. But at the end of the day you've modified the car during the warranty period, raced the sh!te out of her round the track on a regular basis and now she's a bit broke if I'm understanding correctly. It's not surprising they're not playing the game?....
I feel your pain but I wouldn't take this one on a no win no fee basis if I was a lawyer :(

I have spent a lot of cash on the GTi maintaining/modding it, and whatever it needs it gets due to the way i use it, if something mechanical breaks etc, i know ive modded it and use it properly, i havn't tried getting these things done under warrenty i pay the indy specialist to get it fixed,
As for a gearbox leak from the mechatronics unit why should this happen, my gearbox has never been off or touched, this all boils down to me not taking my car to them for servicing, i have spent a fortune in this dealership over the last few years on vehicles but that means didly squat to them,
I wont be setting foot in the place ever again, they make my piss boil
will i buy another VW after this one ? maybe! not from there !,
anyway moving on its booked in for Monday at the indy to sort the leak out.
-
I'm with you Neil - if a dealership hacks me off, I'm finished with them, and is usually the reason for me switching brands - and was the reason for me switching to VW, because of a poor dealer experience with Vauxhall some years ago. Fortunately, I've not had any issues with my VW dealer, but if I did, I wouldn't go back.
There are plenty of other options for customers and your Indy is probably small enough to care and do a good job, to keep the customer coming back again.
Once you get it sorted, put this experience behind you, keep the GTI and enjoy it!
-
glad you decided to keep the car Neil as for me has always been one that floats my boat in the chassis department, i'm sure i nice A/B road blast will help rekindle the flame
i nearly scratched the M3 itch before the 35 but just didn't fancy the running costs and think i'd always go used pork, once the brakes have been sorted on the 35 i'll be more than happy as its just in a different league to the wife's pirelli
VW dealers are getting a bit more ar$ey so my ecu will always have a stock vw file on when it goes in
-
Well the last few days i have been using the GTi for work so done quite a few miles, motorway cruising, back roads etc,
it has rekindled the fire
Apart from today when a van spat a stone at my windscreen and put a big crack in it  so time for its second screen in 12mnths !
Not having a lot of luck lately
-
Good to hear, except for the windscreen of course...
-
The first pic is
The second pic is better....leave out all the decoration and you have a far better looking car than a GTI or R....
Although I like my GTI when a BMW M3 comes within reach it will be mine
-
leave out all the decoration and you have a far better looking car than a GTI or R....
Surely that's a question of personal taste isn't it Erik? I prefer the look of my R to an M3 - and not just because I don't have an M3. Also remember an M3 will probably cost 50% more to run and maintain [if you're loaded of course that doesn't matter  ]
-
I know we all love our Golf but I think stating that your Golf is better looking than an M3 sounds TO MY EARS rather unbelievable and could be more a case of unconditional love....(which is also fine by me )
I do not take price and maintenance in the equasion when I judge the looks of a car.....and I must admit that a Golf R and a GTI can be rather "good looking"
-
Who are you trying to convince. 3's is look good if you shut you eyes and think Golf. I can see why people would buy a 3 or even an M3 because of the engineering and refinement. They are good cars but i couldn't go back to a saloon even if they made them better looking...
