Title: Fuell Smell
Post by: Rob on 08 October 2003, 12:48
When starting car first thing it seems to smell very fuelly, but when car is warm the smell goes away.
I have incline this could be perished fuel pipes, so they will be replaced.
But yesterday when warming up car i had to put something in boot when opened i smellt fuel, pulled up carpet everything is dry no apparent fuel leak, this to went away after car was warm.
Any ideas

Check the fuel consumption (MPG)on the MFA.
I had the petrol smell and also poor consumption.
Found the connections to the fuel filter leaking.
(smell in boot!).
Tightened up and was fine.

Hope its this simple

Carlos.

There is a known fault on late Mk2's where the fuel pipe can wear and leak near the offside suspension turret in the engine bay so be careful.

Fuel filters can become porous with time so check this out too.
I hope you don't smoke ;)
