Im about to get a new exhaust system before the MOT was going to upgrade but wasnt sure which to go for? Which is the best ???
-
Depends what you want i suppose. How loud do you want it to be. Do you want a full stainless system. What tailpipe do you want?
-
Not stupid loud but nice sounding, got to be stainless wasnt sure which tailpipe to go for really
-
Definitley stainless exhaust and if you can stretch to it get a stainless manifold too gives it a much meatier tone I get called Starsky when parking outside the pub now though so not if you want a quiet one!
Powerflow can build you a custom exhaust if you want personal looks, sound and tone.

I have the Jetex S/S system on my 16v with twin round tailpipes.
I think it looks perfick, fits really nicely and isnt too OTT in the noise department
I gave £300 for it, fitted
-
Yeah i was thinking of the jetex. so il go shopping for it in the morning!
-
Another happy customer!

That was mine done in april. Sounds just right for me, not so noisey in the car that it disturbs you, and when cruising it is just right, but give it some welly and its like a monster!!
As the golf gti boys will tell you after this weekend when i chuck it down the strip at pod.
Edit: sh!te forgot to mention specs.
done by - unique exhausts in stafford (a powerflow franchise), price £320, workmanship - top bollock, tone - fresh pants, bore - 2.5", no knocking or anything. Would throughly reccommend them, also get a lifetime warrenty and a free 12 month checkup each year.
-
That's a hoooge exhaust! I'll have to have a closer inspection going thurs night so 1 more day at work to go!!! you taking the chip van for free chips for the GTI gang??????? :)
-
well i shall be there, mental capacity however i cannot comment on as i think wotto and i are planning on getting munted before most arrive
As for the chip van, nope, i am bringing a stripped out mk2 with me. the one in my sig actually. Bit of a turd box tbh
-
I'll be muntered from when we set of on thursday cos I ain't driving cadged a lift!
-
Got a Jetex full system with twin pipes looks good not very loud at all !!! Low burble on tick over, refined until about 4000rpm then it wakes up.
Would defo recommend.

Don't you get like a 20 year garuntee with powerflow?, heard lots of good things about them, and it's tailor made to fit the car perfectly!

It's a life time warranty for as long as you own the car, providing you keep to the annual checkup. I had one put on my cabby earlier this year and cannot fault it, I asked them to tone the sound down and they did just that, so much so that I don't think it's loud enough now ! It does exactly what it says on the tin, you customise it to how you want it, how loud or how quiet and a choice of loads of tail pipes. The only thing about Powerflow is that you are in the hands of the fitter, if he's sh@t at welding then you're goosed. :undecided:
-
As gibby mentioned the guarentee is for the life of the car, as long as annual checks are completed. Oh and you cannot tamper with it yourself.
Regarding the noise tuning, i left mine as free flow, it was fully fitted custom made for the car, 3 boxes. The way they change the sound is to put little restricter plates into the pipe. Circular plates with a smaller diameter hole in the middle and weld them in to stop the gases leaving so quickly.
Again its true what has been said about its all down to the level of competance of the welder. Some jobs i have seen have looked shyte 6 months down the line, make sure you turn up at least half an hour beforethe guy says it will be ready so you can look at it when it is up on the ramps, if you don't like the workmanship then ask them to do it again, your paying after all. The guy i went too was a top bloke and had clean welds all round. Wouldn't fault him.
-
Thanks Slick, I was wondering how they toned it down. :undecided: My own fault really as I insisted on a lower level of sound and I didn't want to get my ears blasted on a motorway run either. I also thought that if my cabby sounded like a scooby or an evo then it would have looked silly when I chugged past !  Still, I guess mk1 cabs are for posing wayne kerrs rather than speed monsters !

I would of said, pink shirt wearing pooftas.
I like mine as it is not too loud on motorway journeys but let it rip and oh my god i need new trousers. Going through multistorys it sets off alarms too but it just sounds too nice to tone down.

this is true, although the true hairdressers car is a mazda mx5. It just oozes scissor welding hairdressing w@nkyness.

What was this thread about again ? :undecided: Oh yeah, exhausts. Powerflow I say.
-
yeah errmm sorry about that.... :embarassed:
I would agree with powerflow, just be very careful on where you go, ask to see some previous work or even better look at some of the stuff they are doing there and then. Will give you a good insight into just how good or bad they are.
-
id say mongoose, got twin pipes on mine and it fits the big bumpers sweet, its fairly quiet till u open it up past abt 3.5 grand, then its sweet as a nut
-
well I might as well have my say!!
I've got a scorpian (middle and back, with DTM pipes.
it sounds great on tick over, just a bit of a rumble then, sounds great when giving it some!!
it fits well, and the best bit is it was already fitted when I got the car!!!
-
Well mines too loud and i wanna change it  I love the look of the 6x4 oval pipe so i think i will have a trip to my local powerflow centre and get them to graft something onto the existing system.
I used to have a magnex 6x4 oval on my last golf and it sounded awsome. It was just the right volume when tootling around but when you floored it it sounded like a vr6 turbo charged monster with a whistle at the very top of the revs! I loved it!
