Title: Different turbo noise
Post by: Butters on 05 December 2012, 11:18
Hi guys, I recently bought a golf like 2 weeks ago and I loved it but recently it started to feel slower and less powerful but now I get this and the turbo makes a more high pitch squeal is this the turbo on its last legs ? Or have a I got a boost leak. Opened the bonnet and I have oil dropping from an off section as shown (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn202/racejunkie_2008/93BEF65C-7699-49F8-8C71-F05E948F7DC6-1557-000000ED4FE073CF.jpg)

That is oil coming from your inlet manifold gasket by the looks of it. Possible a boost leak. If that gasket has had it then it will leak oil and pressure from there.

Best take it off and inspect, then replace with a new gasket, easily done and parts from vw are cheap enough

id aggree with the latter personally. take it off and clean it and see what goes on after. if you have a boost leak itll put a fair bit of black smoke out the exhaust. but better to be safe than sorry, check all your joint on the boost pipes and check the intercooler itself as these are prone to splitting. hope thst helps
