yeah i'm ok which is the main thing, also feeling lucky i didn't hit anyone! starts and seems to drive but makes a bit of a juddery/grindy? noise when the revs go down low. towed it home and the bumper's pushed the radiator and all that back. backbox was pointing straight down digging into the tarmac, not sure what happened with that. gotta work out if i can repair or write off. so ironic i just got it back on the road!
-
Sorry to read this mate, at least your ok though!
-
Terrible news. Glad you are ok.
-
Ooooof,
Looks like a heafty thump, good that you're OK
-
Not good mate, but your hear to talk about it that's the main thing.
-
What car is it?
-
A Mk3 by the looks of it..
-
I know he has a mk3 but that doesnt even look like a golf. :undecided:
-
Sh*t happens.
It's only tin and rubber and as you've rightly said - great that no one else was involved and you're fine.
Chalk it up as experience and turn the speed down in cold weather like this!
Possibly up Salisbury Plain way, if this weather's set for the next couple of months it might pay to pick up a set of winter tyres.
-
You guys never seen a Mk3 without its grille? Instantly recognisable to me!
Probably classed as a right off I would guess, but as long as the chassis is straight then its repairable.
-
If the rads that far back, ima say the legs are bent. Gutted for you bud, glad your ok tho.
-
Gutted for you mate, Sorry to hear that, Hope it aint too big of a job to repair... If you do decide to repair...
-
Sucks man, good job everyone is ok! Get a pic up of the damage in the light!
-
What a total and utter f**king sh!tter. Especially as you've just got it back on the road, I've done this myself and it's heartbreaking. Really pleased that no one was hurt and I echo DH's sentiments, a car is just tin and rubber and can be replaced, but it's not so easy to fix us humans.
Keep your chin up fella.

It was instantly recogniseable to me, although it looked funny because the engine seemed to still be in it and it wasn't on a trailer behind my Passat, on the way to the scrapyard.

Its bloody obvious now im not viewing the image on my missus' sh!t phone screen.
-
thanks for all the messages guys  i've thought about it and i'm now not so annoyed about the car as you can't change the past and 'what ifs' are pointless. a bit of life experience yes... i think it's the shock that got me the most, haven't ever crashed before!
had a look today (was a bit dark for photos) and the engine is now slanted. i can rock it back and forth and there's a piece that's snapped at the bottom back right under the coolant bubble, i think it's the subframe or where the engine mounts or something, i'm guessing this means writeoff?

Subframe and engine can be replaced, its the chassis that you need to be judging it on. My guess would also be that the legs are bent and it won't be worth repairing. Post a couple of pictures taken in the light and we'll have a better idea.

Sorry to hear!
Just saying if your exhaust is pushed back then so is your engine. Hench the grinding noise. May as well write it off.
-
Some people a bit keen on jumping to conclusions.
Possibly it's just an engine mount or two sheared off. Inspect carefully, or get someone experienced with such things and without a vested interest to inspect it.

sh!t happens - but as said, you are ok and no one else was involved !
time to buy a Mk2

thanks. the exhaust is just bent actually, think the grinding is from all the snapped bits!
-
Nearside chassis bent so not worth saving!
Start again I'm afraid
-
That looks pretty fooked tbh.

Unless it's an ABF (which it isn't) i wouldn't bother mate.

-
Aslong as your ok mate thats what really matters. small incidents like these happen, I was only 18 when my first car spun out on ice and ended up in a tree, i wasn't even insured

Yep! and have loads of new fun!
-
Pick up a solid 8v shell for under £500, swap off all the good bits sell the rest on ebay, weigh in the shell.
You will be back to square one with fully working Mk3 and a parts bin for about £200.
Its only a car and a Mk3 at that
-
Probably get a whole car for £500!
-
Sorry to hear this but glad your okay...
