best I've found is the 16v (febi?) set from GSF, or genuine VW ones.

Beware of cheap ebay crap.

I concur with James!

Over the years I have tried twin-core or silicone HT leads and found no improvement.
I only ever buy standard OEM stuff

So better off with the £40 bosch set then?

Yeah just had a look, now the question is standard gsf part leads for £25 or a set of bosch for £40? Is there any advantage?

Just make sure the distributor cap looks the same as the one already on there...I bought one from ECP and it didn't fit very well on top of my distributor, and moved about a bit. But being a bit of a newbie to cars I thought it didn't matter, however was the cause of many running problems. As far as I can tell there are 2 types of cap used on the Mk3. I bought the other one and it located firmly in place.

The cabin /pollen filter is hidden beneath the scuttle tray in front of the windscreen.  Prepare to curse at the poxy plastic fixings.

Yep scuttle sits against the bottom of windscreen is in 2 pieces and access when the bonnet is up.Should have about for plastic pins that fix it in place. http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/m8yTbTGU-MuSZ5QRcIdNZZQ.jpg .They are about the size of 10p piece and black.Looks like this .
