Title: Running like a bag of bones
Post by: mk2man1 on 02 December 2012, 17:42
Here we go 2.0gti 1992, started to run crappy misfire when damp. I have searched back through years worth of posts and solutions. I have changed plugs cap leads and filters fuel oil air, cleaned throttle body cleaned out all pipes checked for holes, leaks. Fixed leak in exhaust just incase, had a new coil 6 months ago.I am waiting on relays from someone but they do seem to be working fine, also cleaned air flow meter.
The misfire tends to be worse when turning round reverse to 1st and is doing my head in i have noticed a ticking coming from the throttle body now though i thought it was tappets but if you hold the feed to the cold start valve it feels like that making the ticking noise.I suppose i can swap relays and see, also done a compression test that was spot on. Any ideas

What do you mean with cold start valve? Do you mean the cigar?

Check if breather pipe has split or is broken... mine ran sh!t when that leaked air. Also check vacuum hoses from air box back and up to throttle and round to brake master cylinder.

Take the cigar off and soak in brake cleaner. See if actuactor works.
Cigar is well known to cause weird issues on the 2E.

Cigar? is that the idle valve running longways, mine has a cold start valve on the right hand side of the throttle body poking out at a bit of a angle,Mr haynes manwell says thats what it is on 2e up to july 1993
thanks for getting back.
