What engine are you talking about mate?
-
it is the 1.6 8v driver engine code RF
-
The choke on my old 1.3 didn't actually close until you pushed the throttle down, I therefore used to push the throttle to the floor and release it before turning the key.
The carbs are different between the 1.3 & 1.6 (2E3 & 2E2) but it might still behave the same.

i will have to try that tomoorow thank's tobz

Have a look in this 2e2 FAQ post:

I'd say its more likely to be the 3/4 point unit, as this increases the idle to 1.5k for a short time on a cold start. Easy to check, start the car and watch the plunger, if it doesn't extend its buggered

thank's rubjonny but one thing that is for a Pierburg carb and mine is a webber carb

Ahhh that changes things a bit, I think we all assumed it was still running the standard carb.
Ignore what I said earlier in that case.
-
Well the webber carb doesn't have an auto choke, probably why we all thought you had a 2e2 :)
I'd pop the bonnet and check all the linkages on the carb & make sure they move freely when you operate the pedal & choke lever
