For my motor sorted last night and it was running perfect. Drove to work this morning and was still good. Left work at lunch and the engine management light came on and now won't boost over 4psi. Other than that its running fine. Any ideas what's up?
-
limp mode, do not drive, get codes and post up mate
-
I have to drive it to get home. Only 5 mile. Will this be ok?
-
...i wouldnt personally mate but if needs must, limp mode is designed to stop any further damage from happening, have you stopped and started again?
could also be a loose connection somewhere so just check all sensor etc as well before you start up again
-
Whatt!!!
Do drive it!
Its in limp mode as theres a fault, it will run but SLOW. Get it plugged in again you have an issue somewhere. Get a error code throw it up on here and we will go through some possible causes.
You can unplug your MAF and your can will run in LIMP it doesnt mean you cant drive your car.
Just dont hammer it.
Could be any sensor causing your issue.

Ok thanks will call the aa again lol.
-
If your stuck somewhere mate trust me if its only boosting to 4psi its running in limp, Drive home and get it sorted. Infact drive home and order a Vagcom lead of ebay for less than £10 it will save you an absolute fortune!!
Its worth the weight in gold.
-
Will have to invest then lol.
Also have noticed the the small hose coming off the top of my dv is folded right over. Could this be the problem?
-
post a pic mate
-
Will have to do it when I get home. Can't do it in my phone for some reason. Thanks for your help tho mate. its much appreciated.
-
The pipe your explaining about does it look damaged or preventing the pipe to allow air through it?
If it is then that isnt good as your DV wont be operating properly.
Best bet it replace this pipe anyhow using the ebay 3/4mm silicone piping. Its about £5 delivered.
-
Yeah it's fine to drive in limp mode it's not gonna hurt it just don't boot it, I'm guessing n75 valve or airflow meter or a boost leak. Oh wait that's what goes wrong with a 1.8t every few days lol
-
If any of the hoses going to the DV are split/bent it can cause it as the boost/air cannot run correctly.
-
:embarrassed: sorry lads i thought you shouldnt drive it in limp mode as it could make it worst :undecided:
i was fibbed to then
-
Well got it home ok. Sorted the hose out. But still low on boost.
-
all coils/spark plugs, fuel lines etc etc been checked? could be a misfire? get yourself a code reader as well or find a vag specialist and ask him to clear the codes and when you order your reader you can then put the fresh codes up for us
-
grrr kind of annoying you dont leive near me Id come to you and scann the car just to see whats wrong...
-
Checked all the hoses, spark plugs, etc. was running fine this morning but engine light was on still. It isn't miss fireing and no lack of power. Just wasn't boosting properly yesterday. Seems ok now just the light is on.
-
Could be anything mate. Best to get it scanned again.
My quess it will be a sensor pooped itself, something like MAF, MAP or camshaft sensor.
Let us know what it comes up with a scan.

sounds like an engine splutter then, i had one a couple of months back when i had my recall, took it to my mech and ran a diagnostics, old codes were wiped, ran it for 15miles and went back, engine light was on but no issues whilst running, did a full check and was literally down to a hiccup in the engine, never happened since, just the spluttering dying thing i have on cold mornings now
