Post by: Mark b on 29 November 2012, 13:11

Cheers for that James much appreciated ill have a gamble at it tomorrow surely if a wire has broken I should find it from the pillar upto the gromit but all the wires are wrapped it some fabric kinda tape if I take the tape off will it be ok to tie back together with insoluation tape after I've finished ? And if I can't find any break will it be worth replacing the relay ?

All the replays I've seen are Numb 377 I don't have a 377 the one I've got is a brown one numbered 603 !

hmmm not sure about that, though ive just had a word with my girlfriends cousin who has a 2l and he had the same prob so he just took the rear wiper off to save on the ache of pulling his interior apart. thats as much as i could get out of him and his story

should be fine with insulation tape as long as its doing the same job, and have you taken the motor off to see if there are any loose connections?

and also remember there is a difference on this forum with ppl input being that for 1.8t's as well so some parts may look different but to be absolutely sure you should try and find a VAG group specialist who can give you free advice as well

and is this your part?

and also have a look at this

im off to bed so let me know what you get up to tomorrow n post something

Yeah the eBay link is what I've got , on the other link it says wiper ect number 377 I. Don't have a 377 ?
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 30 November 2012, 08:43
yeh i think i posted that second link in my sleep cos it really has not that much to do with your situation really lol

by the looks of it to solve the entire issue you can either check the entire wire for breaks though this could be unlikely, check the fuse itself, replace the relay and the motor in the back and if all else fails remove the wiper all together and either replace or plug up  :undecided:
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 30 November 2012, 09:14
I'm gonna check the wire today buy do you have any idea why I wouldn't have a 377 relay or is it the same as the 603 that I've got also all fused have been checked and so has the motor so can rule them to out
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 30 November 2012, 09:44
hmmm well i'll have to have a look at mine tomorrow for you to see if theres any difference then, it could be cos yours is a 2l and mines 1.8 but i'll ask my mate down VW as well if this isnt resloved by tuesday next week

Don't blame you mate I move from west London now living on the wirral near Chester, just spoke to a bloke from vw and he quoted me £117 to fix the car but that's not including a new wire if needed , he's having a laugh

yeh your better off doing it yourself and learning yourself lol new wire under a fiver, new motor about 30, and relays under a 10er if you dig deep enough, my first rooki mistake with my car was taking it to VW for a scan, £70+vat  everything else has now been paid for in swearing and tears  :lipsrsealed:

Just tried to get to more wire but couldn't get enough to play with for as far as I can get I couldn't find a break tool the boot lid off the trim but no joy tempted to admit defeat and go to my local auto electrician he quoted me a while ago around £30

 good god! looks like  someone either got happy with some wire strippers or those tears are due to age, either way looks like a wiring fault mate, may have to remove the roof lining and left hand pillars to get at the whole lot

and have you had you boot trim off as well?
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 13:24
Lol looks like the bomb squad has had a go had a prob removing the pillar as my seat belt part isn't a slide one mines bolted on if that makes Sense
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 13:42
yeh definatly sounds like either the last guy who had it or the garage who "fixed it" made a royal mess of the lot. best bit would be taking out the trim etc. its not a bad job, but the boot trim is a ball ache, the appropriate amount of force on removal and replacing, i broke all the little mettle clips so its held on by faith alone now  :lipsrsealed:

and if the last guy who dealt with it has yanked it then the wire may of come out, especially seeing that the motor works and the fuses are good  :undecided:
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 13:46
P.S its not a good idea using B0MB and puting pictures up of wires on the net
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 13:52
Yeah the motor works and I've checked the 2 fuses on the relay panel. I've managed to get all the boot trim off before but couldn't get the pillar off would I need to unbolt the seat belt part to get to more wires as only looking in the gromit don't give me much to play with
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 14:33
literally everything from the back to front can come off, the pillar trim is held in place with push plugs, you'll need to get the seatbelt removed and a new mechanism sourced, that youtube clip i posted previously showing you how to change the antenna gives you an idea of how to get into the top of the roof lining, and then its pretty much yanking the tops down, carefully though as you dont want anything snapping, as with the 2l, take the 2 front pillars off first to see which side the wiring runs down. dont be alarms if it sounds like the things broken when your pulling, its jst the ribbed plugs slapping on the metal frames
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 14:42
Wow sound like grief the wires on my boot run in to the gromit on the right hand side if that helps . I watched the YouTube clip you posted I'm just hoping a break might be near the back of the car so I don't have to pull much apart I've been told its prob the black/brown wire but tbh I don't know what that wire does
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 14:55
you'll need an electric reader, another body as well to test which wires light up when you start pressing buttons in the drivers seat, fastest and easiest way of finding out which wires are dead  :undecided:
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 15:04
Yeah a bloke at work said it was the brown/black one think you can see it in the picture do you what that wire is
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 15:15
theres two brown black ones  ones black with a brown stripe or black with a brown stripe
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 16:45
It's the one between the back and white one mate
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 16:58
could be power supply drawing on my years of experience with replugging plugs  on a vehicle i think black is the earthed wire and red is positive, the other one is possible for your boot lid lock power...really confusing unless you get a meter reader in there tbh, if you take it to your local specialist they may be able to tell exactly what it is by looking at it, other than unplugging everthing in your boot and then one by one plugging back in the wires and seeing whats got power?
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 17:05
I'm gonna get the wire tested in work tonight if that the only one with no power would it be a possible break rather then anything else ?
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 17:13
as in wire degredation? possible, constant heat and cold fluctuations, faulty wire from manufacturer or as stated before if that wires been yanked then possibly snapped or pull out at source behind fuse panel, checked there yet?
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 17:18
I've not checked behind the fuse panel does the fuse panel come out or is there only access near the relay board
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 17:22
you can remove the panel and internal panel quite easily, its a mess of wires behind there though
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 03 December 2012, 17:29
If I manage to get to it will it just be a case of following the end of the wire with no power or are the wires all connected into a connector
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: GTi_James on 03 December 2012, 17:38
not entirely sure on that, probably same type of connections like an ISO lead  :undecided: you'll need a particular tool for that too
Title: Re: How do i
Post by: Mark b on 09 December 2012, 12:44
Got the wire tested and there is no 12v. Going to check the wire today in the front pillar to see if there is power there if there is then atleast I'd know the break is between there and boot .
Does the front pillar just pull off ?
