Evening chaps on mk3 golfs is it only the 16v abf boxes that run a cable change as the 8v ones run a rod change is that true on all the 8v models ? Thanks :)

Yep, all 8v Mk3's and all Mk2's run rod change boxes.
Mk3 16v and VR6 run cable change with hydro

Seat Ibiza 16v's have a hybrid version of both types of clutch though. Some people use the pedal boxes out of these to get around the cable to hydro issue.

You could fit a different final drive to perk it up a bit.
